Patio Plan + Giveaway

June 3, 2011

Some days, I’m just doing the afternoon dishes and I look up and oh my word, there are grapevines growing in my backyard.  Y’all know I love wine, I drink my fair share of it, and even dream of starting a wine blog someday.  Life is good, you’ll get no complaints from me.  I’m still pinching myself that we were given the opportunity to redeem American Express Rewards points to spruce up our sad patio.  Thanks so much to all of you who shared your input two weeks ago.

We thought about the purpose of this space, and it’s mostly for lounging and sharing a beverage with friends.  The BBQ is up on this patio, so my mister and I envision a place where the family and friends can seek shade and visit with the BBQ Master (aka Mr. CG) while he cooks up his latest concoctions on the grill.

I decided on a simple and breezy ‘fits the style of my yard’ design, one that wouldn’t compete with the view of the vines. This patio plan is filled with natural wood tones and woven textures, to be decorated in neutral shades of taupe and cream, with pops of green and yellow.  I’m so excited to pull this all together! kate wine country patio

There is no place for shade in our yard, so a seasonal covering was essential to the design plan.  We chose a 12’ x 12’ cabana that is on its way, also some outdoor cushions and pillows, as well as some accessories for sharing a beverage while meals are prepped.  I love the idea of enchanting lighting, so I’ll definitely be hanging mini lanterns!  Some new plantings around the corners will be nice, perhaps some olive or citrus trees in pots.  I’ll link to all the items in the big reveal.

Wine barrels are readily available for cheap in these parts, so I foresee one or two DIY projects in my near future for this patio.  I’m inspired by these uses for wine barrels, and I’m sure I can pull off a less expensive version!

That’s the plan, I’m hoping to have something to show y’all in the next two weeks!  All of this courtesy of the American Express Rewards Program, who are also sponsoring today’s giveaway, a $100 gift card to Home Depot!

We close on our new house July 8th!!! The bedrooms could all use brightening up with paint and HD is going to be one of my first stops on move in day.

  2. It’s hard to pick just one project. I swear I’m at Home Depot once a week! I’d probably use it to buy paint to paint the office. Or to finish landscaping around the pool.

  3. Iris says:

I wish I had a yard to apply this to, but unfortunately we live in townhomes with shared communal property. So I would have to use the gift card for a bedroom makeover project that I’m planning for my mom’s birthday (materials include plywood, paint, wallpaper, etc). Thanks for offering this giveaway!

  4. Renee S. says:

I would use it to go toward some paint for a den re-do, some flowers for the front yard and some wood for a little project my son and I are going to work on once school is out.

  5. Eileen says:

My parents just bought a house, so I would use it for paint & supplies for their new digs.

We need a new screened/gazebo this year. Our backyard didn’t get it’s breakdown, clean up & put away at the end of the season last year so our poor baby took a beating. I’d use my giftcard toward a new one. I love my shaded “room” for backyard parties.

I am currently in the works to finish putting up vinyl siding on the back of the house. The next project will be to paint everything else outside, and I would use a $100 Home Deport gift card towards that!

  14. Christy says:

I would finish painting my cedar deck, we ran out of paint and needed to do some touchups on some edges… which was LAST YEAR already sigh.

  15. Hannah says:

What an awesome giveaway! If I kept the card for myself, I would look into some closet organizers for my guest bedroom closet. We’ve been putting boxes of wedding decorations in there along with our old Christmas decorations and other things that we just can’t let go. However, I have a friend of mine who is in the midst of a kitchen reno who is expecting a baby next month. Her husband just quit his job to continue go back to school, so money will be a little tight for them. More than likely I would pass the card onto them because they could use it more than I could. :)

  16. Lindsay says:

  29. Holly says:

Oh goodness, what would I NOT do with a Home Depot gift card?? The possibilities are endless…. but I’m sure I’d end up purchasing paint and I’m wanting to have a flower garden this year – I’d purchase supplies / flowers for that!!!!

  43. Diana says:

It would be tough to decide what to do with the gift card…more plants? Patio furniture? Paint or a new ceiling fan? New faucet or some paint? Yeah, like I said, tough to decide but I’d love to chance to!
