Breezy Colorful Dining Room {Takeaway Tuesday}

Tuesday, May 13th, 2014

I’m loving palettes and textures inspired by tropics right now, perhaps it’s because we’re off on our own vacay next week for Matt’s birthday (Kauai here we come!) and it’s hard to work with the thought of the islands just days away. Also, touches of tropical are trending right now, have you noticed?

Summer is just around the corner and so many of us are dreaming of sand between our toes and swaying palm trees overhead, even if just for a week. I’ve loved this space decorated by Dana Small since it was featured over at House of Turquoise in 2011 (it also appeared in Coastal Living). I thought this breezy casual yet colorful dining room was perfect inspiration for today’s takeaways.

A few other ideas to consider: there’s no need for a rug underneath a dining table if you prefer it that way, it makes for easier sweeping and shows off the flooring. Also notice the table, the rustic wood adds further texture and warmth to the space like the fixture above but a sleek glass top adds a reflective quality and makes clean up practical. Such a breezy colorful space, one of my favorites!

Takeaway Tuesday: Elegant & Energetic Bedroom

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014

With all the shades of blue I use around my own house, I’ve learned that injecting accents in complementary colors in coral and orange really does energize our home. When I spied today’s featured bedroom in House Beautiful and again on Pinterest, I couldn’t help but exclaim, “Yes, exactly!”

This laid back California home’s makeover was designed by Matthew Leverone. He states in his interview about this home’s updates, “I consider myself a modernist who straddles the traditional.” I so identify with that since I consider myself a traditionalist who will always dip her toes into modern! And isn’t it the mix of styles which keeps any room interesting?

Here are today’s five takeaways from this elegant energetic bedroom:
