I’m constantly getting the itch to try out new paint colors around my house.  Painting really is the quickest and most affordable way to give a space an entirely new feel with just a few hours of work.  Now there’s a way to do it digitally and without committing to a purchase, that is until you find the perfect color. 

As part of the My Colortopia team, I was asked to share some of Glidden’s online tools for anyone who has been bitten by the “this space needs a new coat of paint” bug, which is a common occurrence in my house!  There’s a tool called Color My Room which allows you to upload any image of any of your own spaces, or use theeir room galleries to try paint on in a room. 

First use the My Image Inspiration tool which will suggest paint colors based on any image you upload, then store them in your own personal Project Folder. 

Next, use the Color My Room tool with one of your own images or choose one from their galleries and start outlining where you want to paint, like I did below. So let’s say you’re totally over your beige living room.  You need something deeper, moodier, more dramatic – time to try on some paint ! 

Go to the Color My Room tool and upload an image of your own space or play with one of the images in their gallery like I am.  Use the outline tool to indicate where you’ll be painting and where you won’t be painting. 

Then add the colors you’ve selected previously from your Project Folder.

As one of the bloggers over at My Colortopia, I get to answer inquiries and write articles about choosing color for the home, which really is one of my most favorite topics in the universe ever.  They asked me to write about my method for choosing paint color for walls so I’m going to share the easiest way! 

When you’re about to paint your walls something other than white or a pale neutral, I’m a firm believer in starting with something that will actually live in the space as a source of inspiration.  It can be a decorative object, a textile, something organic, a print or piece of art – anything you love that inspires you. Once you find that thing or that fabric, the easiest way to choose a paint color for the walls is to use that source of inspiration as your starting point. 

In my own master bedroom, I wanted a soothing gray with a hint of blue on the walls, so when I repainted it last year, I pulled my color from this Ikat toss pillow.

Fabric or artwork is always a great place to start, but it really can be anything that you use as your jumping off point.  How about the pattern on this loose tea canister?  Your wall color can be inspired by an object just like this. Imagine medium gray walls with vibrant coral or tangerine and spa blue accents, gorgeous!

Hello everyone, and thanks so much to all of you who submitted your tablescapes to the link party yesterday, over 175 submissions (including emails) wow! It’s going to be nearly impossible to choose winners, there are so many beautiful holiday tablescapes to inspire.  I’m having so much fun looking at all of them, there is so much talent out there! The panel of judges will be reviewing them this week and narrowing it down to award those great prizes very soon.    

Meanwhile, I want to share my new writing job and where you’ll find me once a month.  The newly launched My Colortopia blog is a brand new source of inspiration for you and there’s a fabulous lineup of bloggers on board who will be sharing their personal experiences and insights on all things paint and color.   

The site is designed to inspire readers with tips and tricks to decorating with color and to inspire us all to live a colorful life! I’m so happy to be a member of the team because I can’t think of anything more fun than talking about two of my favorite subjects: paint and color. You’ll find two of my articles published already. This month’s Christmas Colors: There Are No Rules shares some thoughts on traditional versus non traditional colors of Christmas.  

You’ll also find last month’s article Look to Nature discussing the psychological effects of color and sharing some inspiration from the great outdoors.
