Spring Porch Decor with Dash & Albert

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015

Hello everyone, don’t mind me I’m just feeling the softness of this new rug under my toes! I’ve been the biggest fan of Dash & Albert rugs for years, oh yes I’ve got one in my dining room, one in my living room, one in my son’s room, and I used a Dash & Albert striped runner on this staircase makeover.

The Poppy Leaf outdoor rug is my latest acquisition – part of the new PET line of rugs from the Annie Selke company bringing all of us stylish rugs that are family and pet friendly. These rugs are fabulous quality, easy to clean, and so soft I marvel at how they are washable outdoor rugs!

And there’s a cozy Citrus throw to go along with it in another pretty shade of green, a hue I never tire of since the verdant color is everywhere we look outside. I was invited by Annie’s team to style a few of their new products for spring on the small porch at the Las Vegas fixer upper house since I recently painted the front door and replaced the door handle so I happily accepted (I moved the previous rug to the rear sliding door.)

For the porch I chose the Poppy Leaf rug for pattern, the Mingled Turquoise pillow for color, and the apple Nautilus pillow for fun.

You too can get your hands on some goodies from Dash & Albert and they carry not just rugs but also throw blankets, poufs, tote bags, pillows, pet beds and more.

Porch Upgrades + Outdoor Benches

Monday, March 2nd, 2015

Now that it’s March, spring is on its way and at this time of year I start thinking about sprucing up outdoors spaces. As you know, we bought a house in Las Vegas last year that we’re remodeling, it’s in an older subdivision neighborhood and it has a modest entry.

What was on the front porch before was oh so boring: a brown front door and plastic bench left by the previous owner. For months I left it as is but on my most recent visit, I gave it a mini makeover by painting the front door and swapping out the old bench for something more stately and stylish.

Here’s a peek at the entry before, very blah and uninspiring.

Fresh paint, new bronze hardware on the door, a geometric print outdoor rug, and desert climate plants helped make it more welcoming.

I painted the front door with exterior paint in a bluish green, it’s ‘Northern Green Mountain’ by Glidden in the Exterior formula, I shared the step by step on how to paint a front door here. The geometric indoor/outdoor rug is from Overstock.

The front door handle/lock is the aged bronze Addison model by Schlage. All of the new doorknobs inside the home are oil rubbed bronze so we continued the look with the same dark hardware here.

The bench on this porch is the Amalfi available at Grandinroad in several colors (and on sale). I love the curved detail in the back and the sophisticated black finish which complements the dark hardware on the door.

If you’re thinking of a front entry sprucing of your own, consider one of these outdoor benches in shapely and colorful styles.

Hooray for spring, it’s almost here!
