Paint Closet Essentials

January 28th, 2011

Greetings!  I had a fun time with a lot of great gals this past week, but thankfully I’m on a plane flying back to California today.  I miss my family.  I miss my broken in pillow with its perfect fill that never gives me a kink in the neck.  Mostly, I miss my paint splattered sweat pants from 1995, proudly worn here.

There’s just no place like home!

Terri asked a great question yesterday on my Facebook page:

.

Terri, I get a little nervous when my paint supplies dwindle so I keep several types of primer, paint and protectant around at all times.

1)  I always have oil based primer on hand, especially for laminate surfaces like floating wall shelves or for covering wood like this oak mantel.  No sanding required!  Spray paint formulas are faster, but thinner in coverage.  I like brush on formulas for surfaces that will get a lot of wear and tear.  If you’re bored or curious, awhile back, I wrote up a few tips on refinishing with oil based primer and paint

Inspired: Large Scale Abstract Art

January 27th, 2011

A few years ago, I took an art class where I was required to create several paintings, the final one being an abstract work.  I never thought I would like painting abstract art because of the fact it’s not about a pictoral representation, rather the use of color, brushstrokes and emotion.

Lately, I’ve imagined a large scale piece over our living room sofa, so I’ve been collecting inspirational images to remind myself how fabulous a large scale piece of abstract art looks over a mantel, couch, or console.

Guest Visitor: House of Smiths

January 26th, 2011
Greetings friends!  I’ve arrived safely in Nashville, y’all!!   I love this place, they have rocking chairs in the airport while you wait for your luggage.  Well that’s just down home southern hospitality if you ask me.   The BBQ here is divine, and I can’t wait to head downtown to hear some live music later this week!
.
So I had this great post for yesterday answering a reader’s question, “Should You Start a Blog?” and I worked on it for two hours and then. . . dun dun dun. . it disappeared into thin air.  It’s lost somewhere in the stratosphere between the Grand Canyon and Dallas.  Grrrr.  It was the perfectly timed question given I’m at a blog conference this week, the same one I was at last year.  I’ll do my best to recreate it later today.  Pinky swear.
.
Meanwhile, ooohhh goody goody, look who’s here today!  Only one of my new favorites!  Please welcome  Ms. Shelley from House of Smiths.   Take it away lovely lady.
