Happy Memorial Day!

Monday, May 26th, 2014

Hello and Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope you’re enjoying the long weekend and kick off to summer. We’re headed home from Oahu today after eight amazing days spent in Hawaii. I meant to post a ‘Best of the Blogosphere’ on Friday but this place does something to me, it saps any desire to look at a screen, yet simultaneously inspires me to get home and start creating again. I couldn’t justify time on a computer when the beauty of the islands called and the family was having so much fun together in the sun so I decided to play instead! I’ll post a belated roundup this week :)

Yesterday we went to visit Pearl Harbor and a huge storm came in just as we arrived with thunder and lightning and even flash flood warnings like we’ve never seen before on previous visits to the islands. The changing weather cut short our tour of Pearl Harbor and although we’ve visited before, we did take a few moments to reflect at this magnificent and meaningful memorial.

We ducked into the shelter of the museum as the clouds rolled in and the rain poured down to pay tribute to our brave brothers and sisters who gave their lives to defend our country on the battlefields.

Let us never forget that the freedoms we enjoy we owe to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. I’m feeling so much gratitude today for all of the men and women who have served in our military (and the families who support them) both past at present. Bless you all.

I’ve got much to share this week, including some favorite adventures/stops/eats in Kauai and pictures of the best vacation rental we’ve ever stayed in, it was so charming with many great design elements to inspire!

Enjoy the remainder of the weekend. ..

Day Trip: St. Helena

Monday, April 14th, 2014

We had such an amazing time in St. Helena with our inlaws last weekend we went again on Saturday to dine and shop! The spring weather has been spectacular with gorgeous blue skies so we couldn’t resist. I always take my camera along to capture the sights …

St. Helena is a little town nestled between Calistoga to the north and Rutherford to the south in the heart of the Napa Valley and it makes for a fabulous day trip for anyone visiting the region.

One thing a lot of tourists do is catch the Wine Train in Napa that takes you all the way up to St. Helena and back. We rode the sunset dinner train years ago with friends which was so fun but if you catch the lunch train during the day you will get the benefit of amazing vineyard scenery during daylight hours.

If you’re driving or biking along the main road into St. Helena your head will turn nonstop from left to right to take in all the sights. The landscape is covered with hillside vineyards and peppered with wineries, inns, and shops with idyllic grounds where you can stop to taste olive oil, cheese, and of course wine!

It’s impossible to squeeze it all into one day but it’s worth visiting just to savor the sights and flavors.
