Anthropologie, How Do I Love/Hate Thee

Monday, January 30th, 2012

I don’t shop for nice clothing very often and I usually don’t shop for clothing at Anthropologie because of the prices for those threads and also because most of their clothing doesn’t fit me very well. I have curves so I’m more of Ann Taylor Loft gal.

But last week I found myself pulled by in by the tractor beam that exists within 50 feet of any Anthropologie store, it sucks you in uncontrollably and you must, arms flailing, surrender to the vortex of inspiration.  Once inside, you must channel your Jedi mind powers of self control to pull yourself out of an Anthropologie store without spending a dime.  Unfortunately, last Thursday, I had no such self control.  anthropologie doodle

So now I have to tell you about my new Anthropologie sweater. I have a hard time spending $48 dollars on a sweater, let alone One Hundred and Forty Eight Dollars on a sweater because I don’t think I’ve ever spent that amount of money on any non-coat or dress piece of clothing in my life, but Oh Em Gee I am in love.  I have justified this purchase by the fact that I wear it everyday and will continue to wear it everyday between hand washings through April which means I really am only paying two dollars a day which is less than a Starbucks!  I’m saving money! I’m saving money!

Which reminds me of when my mom would go shopping with her limited budget and buy something cute for herself, and she would come home and tell my dad that she “saved money” because she bought it on sale and he would say “no you didn’t, you spent money” and she would say “no, I saved money” and he would wink and say “no you spent money” and they would go back and forth, back and forth until she walked out of the room with her cute new thing.  But that analogy really doesn’t apply here because I didn’t buy my sweater on sale so I don’t really know why I brought that up.

Anyway.

I was in Anthropologie and spied this Cavendish sweater and loved it at first sight.  This sweater designed by Rosie Nierra is grey blue and oat with subtle golden metallic threads.  What?  Grey blue and oat with subtle golden metallic threads?  Seriously?  It’s like Rosie knit my house into a sweater. It’s like she read my blog and knit my house into a sweater.

The Quest for the Perfect Robin’s Egg Blue

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

I spent this weekend prepping and priming a dresser for a good friend in anticipation of painting it for her daughter’s room.  We’re sprucing up the space and repurposing some furniture and since the walls and daybed are white, I thought it would be absolute perfection if we painted the dresser robin’s egg blue. So off I went in search of the absolute perfect shade.

I adore this color so much I even use a version of it as a background on the ol’ blog. It’s that blueish with a bit of green and gray shade that in my opinion just makes the world a better place. It’s not turquoise or aqua, but not pastel or too green either.  Kind of airy and watery but not as bright as Tiffany blue, and always so so pretty when done right. I’m a total sucker for anything painted robin’s egg blue.

A Thank You Letter to My Sister On Her Birthday

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

Dear Sis,

Thank you for being born 4th and not 2nd because someone like me had to be the older sister and clearly with my bossy nature I’m better equipped to handle that responsibility.  Thank you for always being so agreeable whenever I made you eat something, wear something, or say something you didn’t understand just to get a laugh.

Thank you for being 3 inches to the left when I launched that baseball across the yard to our middle brother because if you had not been 3 inches to the left I would have creamed you in the head with that baseball and you might not be as smart or musically talented as you are today.

mickey and davyThank you for making that mix tape we used to listen to as kids when we shared a room and accepting Mickey Dolenz as your boyfriend just so I could have Davy Jones as my boyfriend while we watched Monkees reruns on Nickelodeon after school.

Thank you for tolerating the fact that I have recently started introducing you as my older sister to strangers just to see the look of confusion that crosses people’s faces.

Today is one busy day for me and my crew, we’ve got parades and parties and trick-or-treating to do. But this busy mom is not gonna fret, she’ll be spending the day with Bo Peep and Jango Fett.

How was your weekend?  Ours was just swell. I’ve got a big story I can’t wait to tell! We worked through the weekend on our latest plan, with Skil Saw and Dremel and nail gun in hand. Tomorrow I’ll show all our hard work to you, together we built ourselves something brand new.

Till then, wishing you all a . . .
