Moody Monday: Sea + Citrus Sitting Room

Monday, June 4th, 2012

Good morning all and welcome to another week!  I still can’t believe it’s June already, my word when did that happen?

I’ve been thinking…  I can’t get enough of great full room designs and because I’ve finally figured out a lot of the tools in Photoshop Elements (yahoo!) I’ve been doing a lot of playing around in that program and I just decided from time to time I’m going to create rooms that don’t exist but really should exist if it were up to me and feature them here.

Welcome to the first (of I have no idea how many) Moody Monday made up rooms where I draft a mood board for an imaginary space just because I feel like it.  This week’s version is a sunny sitting room filled with layers of blue and accents in citrus shades with a few of my favorite warm tone metallic accents thrown in the mix too.  And since I’m obsessed with natural wood bead chandeliers at this moment, I had to add a gorgeous one suspended above as a finishing touch.

My Delight with White (Ceramics)

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

I was at Marshalls the other week and found myself yet again drawn to the aisle with the shapely white ceramics on sale.  I ended up buying a pitcher, a large sculptural bowl, and vase, all for $20 (woot!) and all because I didn’t have that particular white piece in that particular shape.  I have deemed my obsession with white ceramic objects  a sickness and I feel no shame in the affliction.

They’re just so simple, so stylish, and so versatile.  I love how Nicole has her collection above her media center in her family room.

Let’s Go For A Dip

Friday, April 13th, 2012

We see a lot of trends in design and they come and go, some I embrace, some I shun, but there’s one I’m loving lately and that’s the paint dip trend.  Popping up all over the web are DIY projects and home decor where various pieces from furniture to kitchen utensils have been dipped in paint and *confession time* I’m really loving it.  Why?  Well, first of all I love color blocking.  And I love anything two tone done well, it makes the piece more interesting IMHO.  And I also love paint.  Have I mentioned?

The best reason is, what could be more simple than a DIY project that involves some painter’s tape and the use of your paint color of choice to spruce up something ordinary.  Am I right?

For me the attraction is the asymmetrical nature of it all.  Never picking a halfway point, but rather choosing a more mischievous place to tape off your wood before you paint is really the key to the look.

Decorating with Black & White

Friday, March 9th, 2012

I’ve had black and white interiors on my mind for months now, every time I see one it jumps out at me, not for lack of color obviously but for the way the well thought out black and white space is both classic and modern all at once and with little or no color to assist.  Like the classic black and white film or photograph, I find these spaces so sophisticated, elegant and divine!  It’s the high contrast that I’m so drawn to – how the whites deepen the blacks, and the blacks brighten the whites.

I’m fascinated how much personality exists in these multilayered spaces both casual and formal.  Here are some of my most favorites to inspire, punctuated by a few fun objects for your home.
