Merry Marabou Feather Tree

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here thanks to Mr. Bublé. After I bought his CD the other day (love it!), we’ve been listening to the sounds of Christmas, which put me in the mood to make things feel like Christmas. Yes it’s early, but I make no apologies. I’d like to blame Michael but really it’s my eagerness to get the decorating done early.  Just a little bit every day and I’ll have time to enjoy December!

I had an idea the other day for a craft project that I wasn’t sure would work, but in the end turned out so cute I had to share.  It’s an ornament tree made from dowel rods and marabou feather boas.  How fun is this?

To recreate your own, here’s what you’ll need. One wood bun foot; one ¾” x 36” dowel rod and six ¼” x 36” dowel rods from a home improvement store; white paint (or primer); saw to trim ¾” dowel rod; sharp clippers for ¼” dowel rods; power screwdriver with ¼” drill bit; hot glue gun; 12-15 feet of marabou feather boas from a craft store.  Optional supplies: craft glue, glitter, and tree topper.

Sweater Pillows

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

I love a great challenge!  Last week Katie and friends announced the second Pinterest Challenge (Fall Edition) and since I missed it the first time around, I decided to hop on board this time.  A few weeks ago I had cozy accents on my mind, specifically sweater pillows.  Pottery Barn has made versions of these in the past and there were a few DIYers who came up with their own interpretations too. I loved Megan’s version from Brassy Apple so I pinned it. (Don’t you love the ability to comment on Pinterest too?  Thanks Julie, you made me laugh!)

I also loved Megan’s button center and floral accents too!  I went down to my local Goodwill and saw at least a dozen sweaters to choose from.

I bought the center one for $3 bucks and brought it home.  Then I pinned this:

And a few days ago I made this!

The flower is a lapel pin I’ve had for awhile that suits the pillow perfectly.

For Your Reading Enjoyment…

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Hello.  Did you know it’s November?  Yeah, it is.  Hard to believe, right?  Well November means it’s time to get your holiday on!  There’s a gal we all love who’s just published a Holiday Guide that I know you’ll be so excited to read. Of course you all know of the talents and charms of Ms. Emily Henderson.  THE Emily Henderson, Design Star winner and stylist extraordinaire.  She’s funny, inspiring, and oh so talented when it comes to design, so how delighted was I to be invited to be a part of her Holiday Guide?  Very!

The Holiday Guide is filled with over 200 pages of inspiration including a gorgeous Christmas spread styled by Emily and also her extensive gift guide. But that’s not all!  There are so many other original contributions from many talented bloggers (full list here).

My contribution is a perspective on classically elegant lace which often gets a bad rap as too ‘granny’. I take issue with that notion and offer a few suggestions for using lace in holiday décor, but still keeping it fresh, like the pairing of this modern Marimekko gift wrap along the back of a cabinet with classic white lace used as a decorative liner.
