Favorite Sources for Affordable Pillows

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

This week is pretty crazy, we’ve got several projects in the works and we’re celebrating a birthday, so I’ve been away from the computer a lot but I got a great question the other day and I had to smack my head because I can’t believe I haven’t answered it yet.

“Dear Kate. How can I get to the information from February where you were describing how to combine patterns of throw pillows? And where can you find a variety of reasonably priced pillows?” ~ Loretta in Kentucky

Loretta that post you mention on pillow styling is here and I have a lot of places I like to shop for pillows. I’m a frequent pillow changer by season so if I don’t make them myself, I hunt for ready made ones that are affordable and by that I mean under $50.  I’ve kept a master list of retailers in a document on my computer and was reminded to post it here when Loretta prompted me.

Here are my favorite sources for affordable pillows (under $50):

1) Etsy.  I like to support small businesses so I shop around on Etsy for pillow covers made with designer fabrics, some of my favorites include Festive Home Decor, NenaVon, Pop O Color, Pillow Mood, Kassapanola, and WillaSkyeHome.

I Need To Discuss Downton

Monday, February 25th, 2013

I know it’s been a couple of weeks since the finale here in the States and I know most of us are caught up on the drama, but as an Official Downton Abbey Addict I must share some thoughts on Season Three.

Matt and I watched the first two seasons together but this time we watched it separately, me at first all by myself kept company by a bag of popcorn and with each episode awaiting every character’s lines and plot turns.

With him, I watched Season 3 the second time yes, the second time  while he was the one carefully listening for the brilliant lines and plot turns, I was eyeing the fashion and interiors and the subtleties uttering out loud things like “oooh, that writing desk” and “oh the beading on that dress” much to his annoyance.

So I have to get these thoughts off my 21st century chest since I love this show so much and I’ve been saving these snapshots for weeks and weeks, but first:

* SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER * alert

Do not read this post if you’re not caught up on the entire season!!!

May I begin? First of all the hats! The hats this season were so amazing, my compliments to the milliners, I especially loved the plumes on Shirley’s head.

Favorite Splurges!

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

Hey y’all!  I’m in Charlotte, NC for the next two days – wow, what a beautiful place!  I can’t wait to get out an explore a little bit, I’ve always wanted to visit here, and I’ll share some pics next week.

Since Valentine’s Day is around the corner, I think it’s an excuse to splurge on something special and show yourself some love, ha! I rounded up some blogger friends to share their favorite indulgences with you today in a continuing "blogger favorites" series (last month it was organizational tricks).  I asked them to share that special thing they indulge in to make themselves feel special or to share a recent favorite splurge.  Mine is at the bottom, don’t think I’m weird, but I’m in love!

"My splurge item is the Archipelago Black Forest candle.

It is one of the best candles I’ve ever purchased. It smells so lovely and it’s beautiful too."

"My husband first gave me this "hot chocolate on a stick" for Christmas, and I’ll admit, I thought it was a little odd. Then I tried it.

Let’s just say my cupboards are now comfortably stocked with the salted caramel flavor."

~ Nicole Balch, design blogger at Making It Lovely

macarons " There’s nothing like indulging in a macaron to make my day feel a little more special. Their pretty pastel colors make them irresistible and they’re so tiny, I hardly feel guilty eating them. Just a nibble, pinkies up, and my messy house disappears and I’m instantly transported to a small cafe in Paris!"

~ Jennifer Flores, DIY and design blogger at Rambling Renovators

"My favorite splurge is definitely fancy fixtures! Case in point, my beloved kitchen bridge faucet. It was pricey and it would have been a lot easier on my wallet to go with a more affordable option but I’m so happy I went with a splurge. I still love the way it looks six years later. "
