Fan-tastic! Hutch Makeover

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

When Jesyka sent over this buffet and hutch transformation I was totally and completely wowed.  Refurbishing these old treasures is all the rage, and they are easy to prime and paint, but Jesyka created something really special with this one-of-a-kind makeover.

I love everything about this piece!  Not only did Jesyka paint it the perfect robin’s egg blue (that she mixed herself), but her choice of three different knobs complement each other so nicely.  And that pop of gold paint?  Swoon.   How about that incredible wallpaper!  Love that wallpaper!  Psych.  Not wallpaper.  Shelf liner.  Brilliant!

Jesyka also added lighting and changed that fixed middle window into an operating door.   Jesyka, Jesyka, you’re just a girl after my own heart.

LOVE this.

Don’t miss her birdcage chandelier hanging from the ceiling that’s a wee stroke of genius.   Go on, hop over to visit Jesyka and give her big props for this inspiring piece.  Bravo!

Fan-tastic! Upholstered Bed

Sunday, January 16th, 2011

“Wow, just wow!” was all I could say when Kelly from The View Along the Way sent me pictures of her DIY upholstered bed.  Apparently Kelly “accidentally reads too many DIY blogs” (aren’t we all guilty of that?) which led her to coax her husband to help her build this.

She was inspired by Jonathan Adler’s bed which retails for over $2,700.

I love her amusing post how she describes the whole process and the title too: “We Made Our Bed Now We Lie In It.”  Don’t miss the significance of the date on the plywood, a major cool sign this was meant to be hers.

Hop on over to The View Along the Way and give Kelly a virtual high five.

She’s earned it!

Fan-tastic Fixture

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Hi all, how’s your week?  For me, it’s been interesting running up and down plywood steps on our staircase for the past few days.  We will slowly be installing new white risers and wood treads over the course of the next week.  It’s certainly a lot of precision cutting, and there’s plenty of sawdust in our house ~ more details coming soon.

Meanwhile, I’d love to show off this fantastic light fixture revamp by Kristen at The Painted Hive.  Kristen shows some real ingenuity and a can-do attitude with her makeover.  She takes this unbelievably dated fixture (the same one I’ve spied at garage sales and in the brass bin at my local Restore)  . . .

Stunning!

Can you believe it ?  What a clever and beautiful makeover, I am in awe !

Hop on over to visit Kristen and read all about how she did it.   No doubt you’ll be inspired to update one of your brassy fixtures too.

Have you got a fabulous makeover you’d love to see featured?  Drop me a line at centsationalgirl@gmail.com and I’m happy to consider it for the weekly lineup!

Fan-tastic: Bench Makeover

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Greetings friends, how’s your Wednesday this fine September?  I just adore September, do you?   Both my birthday and my anniversary take place in this glorious month ~ only May and October can compete in my book.

I was picking my kids up from school yesterday, and a gust of wind was blowing.  Leaves were twirling in the breeze having just fallen off the trees, and I caught just the hint of autumn in the air.  It’s still warm as can be, but I noticed that the leaves around here are just starting to turn.

Don’t you love that feeling?  That moment when you feel the seasons changing.  That smell in the air, that moment in time that only happens once a year.  I treasure it.  I take a deep breath and try to make a memory.   *sigh*

If you follow me on Twitter, you know I spent yesterday purging a bin filled with over 50 magazines . .  very old publications of BH&G, Country Living, Traditional Home, and Martha ~ all my favorites.  But only after I ripped out all the articles I found to be inspiring!

I lugged at least 20 pounds of old paper to the recycling bin, and that felt sooooo great!  Now I’m inspired to style a fall mantel, but I’m convinced more than ever that I can make it happen mostly with what I already have in my yard, plus what I presently possess in my autumn stash from years past.  This year’s fall décor will be very simple indeed.

But today, as part of the Fantastic Feature series, I am so pleased to share Kristin’s beautiful bench makeover!  You all know I’m a fawning fool for a distressed Frenchy antiqued piece (soooo my style) and this bench surely fits the bill.   Today, in the spotlight is Kristin from My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia.
