Boost Your Roost Finalists – Time to Vote!

Monday, July 30th, 2012

Good morning everyone, hope you had a nice relaxing weekend!  Today is the day the Boost Your Roost finalists have been announced and now is the time to vote!  It was an extremely difficult selection process and all of the bloggers involved had to choose just one.  I settled on the Williams family and I’m hoping they win a kitchen remodel!

Dawn and Alex Williams of Florida live in a 2 bedroom 2 bath 1,100 square foot bungalow.  Dawn is a special education teacher and with their busy schedule they’ve run out the energy and funds to deal with their crumbling kitchen in dire need of remodel.

Their home has no insulation, and their entire kitchen runs on one electrical circuit (crazy I know!) which means they must plan which appliance to use at which time to avoid tripping the breaker.

The particle board cupboards are falling apart and they have no pantry to store any food for their growing family.  Dawn doesn’t feel comfortable inviting friends or family over because of their poorly functioning kitchen.

Can’t you see a complete kitchen remodel here?  New floors, cabinets, countertops, appliances - $20,000 would completely transform this space.  The Williams family needs your vote!

Head on over to the Boost Your Roost contest to read more of Dawn’s story (plus all six finalists’ stories).  Vote once a day until August 13th!

‘Boost Your Roost’ Contest!

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

One of the best things about writing about home improvement and design is how it recognizes how we are all emotionally attached to our homes and want it to be the best that it can be.  I’ve partnered with HouseLogic and today we’re announcing the ‘Boost Your Roost’ home renovation contest!

We’re looking for homeowners that have a great idea for a home improvement project that will help you get the most enjoyment out of your home and also increase its value.

The ‘Boost Your Roost’ contest is all about enhancing life in the home. We’re looking for home projects that will help you better enjoy your home and the time you spend there with your family and friends, and the prize is a $20,000 home renovation!

What kind of improvement can you imagine for your home with an award of $20,000?  Would you remodel an outdated kitchen or bath?  Would you replace windows, doors, flooring, carpet, or light fixtures?  Would you rework your floor plan, add wainscoting, spruce your basement, or make other architectural improvements?  $20,000 could do a lot to improve the value of your home!

To enter the ‘Boost Your Roost’ Contest:

  1. Submit your name, email, phone number, and the location of your home
  2. Send at least 1 but no more than 5 photos of the area to be renovated
  3. Include a written description of the proposed renovation (300 words max), describing why your home improvement idea is important to you and how it will improve the quality of the time you spend in your home with family and friends.
  4. (optional) Include a drawing or a video of the proposed renovation

Send all submissions to [email protected]  between June 20, 2012 and July 16, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. EST.  The contest is restricted to homeowners within the continental US.  The winner’s story will be documented in a video and photo series to be shared at HouseLogic.com after the contest ends.  Six finalists will be showcased on HouseLogic.com and voting will occur between July 30 and August 13, 2012, and the winning homeowner will be awarded $20,000 in home renovation!

Put your thinking caps on and send us your submission!!
