I’ve been spending a lot of time in the desert lately ever since we bought a house there last year and I’ve become so fond of it I miss it when I leave. Dry air, balmy nights, red rocks, cactus and joshua trees, tank tops, flowing skirts, tribal jewelry, and the eternal search for shelter from the hot summer sun.
Have you noticed the reentry of desert style into design? Coachella inspired clothing has taken over summer fashion, and many retailers have added Navajo and southwest motifs to their furniture and textile collections this year. White or stucco walls, wood tones, and desert botanicals complete the look.

I love all of these sun bleached interiors, they’re gorgeous!

I love the anthropologie blue and white triangle rug in the first photo and the triangle patterned coffee table in the last photo. I must have a thing for triangles.:-). As always thanks for the inspiration, Kate!
Fabulous. It does feel a bit like a home in a desert! Love the patterned rug
RL’s Corral Canyon is beautiful:
I just LOVE the casual feel these rooms provide.
I love the southwest look and feel. It is so earthy, it makes me feel connected to nature. Great post!
Even though I lived through the last incarnation of Southwest Style decorating as a teenager, I am loving this current look because although there are similarities, it is not the same. Not as themed, I guess. It feels relaxed and unpretentious, yet very thoughtful.
Agree with Andrea–no kitschy Kokopelli themes here! Anthropologie knows a thing or two about styling for a photo, I’d say. I love the simple rug in the last picture.
I love the desert themed rugs.
I love this style…but live in Charleston SC ! Maybe I can pull some of the colors in somewhere.
I love this! Of course I’m country (TX), in love with summer and everything heat related and textile happy always.
We live in Arizona and have done the Southwest theme, it’s beautiful but just doesn’t feel like me. The blue and green, beachy/cottage/coastal theme just brings me to my happy place :)
I’m native to Az. but never did the Southwest decor. However, in the last year I’ve become appreciative of some of the colors and patterns that are being used. I just recently have begun adding items such as pillows with vintage cowboy themes and navajo blanket designs along with rugs using the jewel tones of our state. There is so much beauty in our area that you don’t have to use Kokopelli ( unless you want to)
