Sadly, there are no babies or toddlers in my life other than other people’s babies and toddlers who I want to gobble up or kidnap for a few hours every time I see them. What makes it worse is that all the kid decor is so darn cute these days it makes me crazy because kid’s rooms are so.much.fun. to decorate. So yesterday I fell down the rabbit hole otherwise known as “cute kid’s rooms” and couldn’t help but gather up some fun ideas that caught my eye. Here are some notes I made just in case I get lucky and a kid’s room project lands in my lap soon.
Double the Fun. Bunks and lofts are a great way to maximize vertical space in kids’ rooms and a great option for shared spaces or sleepovers.
Get Graphic. A fun wallpaper or brushstroke paint treatment adds pattern to a kid space, and with all the removable options for prepasted wallpaper these days it doesn’t have to be a permanent design element. Here are some tips on how to hang prepasted wallpaper yourself.
Create a Hiding Spot. Every child loves to play hide and seek, they also love crawling into little spaces where they can read, play, and pretend. A tee pee or a fort achieves that, or get creative outside their bedroom with a tablecloth play tent.
Add Unique Storage. This is my favorite trend in kid’s room design right now, unique storage pieces that add interest and are more special than ordinary bookcases.

Include Furniture They Will Grow With. Choosing desks, dressers, chairs, and beds in classic styles means they will work in a child’s room for years to come. 
Paint Outside the Box. If there is any place you can get crazy creative with paint it’s in a kid’s room. Any surface is fair game from the floors to the furniture and ceiling! Think beyond a singular color on the walls and use paint in unexpected ways.
Toy & Book Organization. Toys and books fill a kid’s world so storage is a must. Tall bookcases maximize vertical wall space, shorter versions allow for art or shelf displays above.
A Place for Art Displays. Children’s art is the best! So much color and creativity exists in their drawings and paintings, having a space to display them all adds so much personality to a child’s room.

Thanks for posting this! I’m in the middle of doing my 6yr old boys room and just finished the board and batten last night…I copied your tips from previous posts! And to see that turquoise bed with the turquoise board and batten really made me excited!
What a timely post! I just finished my 13 year old’s room and revealed it this last week. I am now embarking on my 3 year old’s room which I will admit is that crazy/fun/cool kind of decorating that I love. The older boy’s room was “serious”. This one is going to be fun. I am totally stealing some of these ideas! I love the brightness of most of these pictures. Kids rooms should be bright and cheery IMO :-) Thanks for inspiration.

Thanks for sharing these inspirational photos! Love all of the playfulness. One thing that I regularly notice in these types of photos are the LACK of Lego sets on display — if it’s a “real” room, you know they are around somewhere and probably a thorn in the design-conscious mama’s side. I know you can relate! ha ha You know my current pain point with 4, 6, and 8 year olds at home!
