Kirkland’s Media Center + Giveaway

By Kate Riley January 27, 2015

I just returned from a four day trip to Las Vegas where I had my Lasik eye surgery and worked on a few spaces in the fixer house. One of the projects was creating a media center in partnership with Kirkland’s Storage and Organization Event

We needed a media center between the fireplace wall and kitchen; we thought about hanging a flat screen above the fireplace but later decided a media stand on this wall directly in front of the sectional sofa would be better. The trouble was finding one that was small enough to fit but thankfully we did, the Townsend Media Stand is 42” wide but large enough for a good size flat screen to sit on top (Matt’s request, ha! Why do the men always want the biggest TV?)

We still need to add both tile and a floating wood mantel above the fireplace to the left, the kitchen is just to the right. The space for a media stand was only 5 feet wide so we needed something skinny and with storage capability. We’re pleased with this media stand from Kirkland’s since it has the perfect proportions for the space and adds beautiful contrast with its warm wood against the white painted walls.

We keep the kid movies on the left and grown up DVDs on the right, I also swapped the basic knobs for larger bone and brass hardware from Anthropologie (the Callisto knob) playing off the layered blue tones we’ve been adding to this home.

To balance the weight of the piece and fill the empty wall space above the TV, I added a few art prints in a mini gallery. The artwork came from two favorite sources, the waves print on the far left I ordered from Minted last year, the other three are from The Handmade Home book collection. Adding artwork above a flat screen is one of many ways to design around a television.

I hung the artwork above while watching a favorite movie, appropriate for the town, can you name it?
