Budget Statement Light Fixtures

By Kate Riley June 30, 2014

I’ve been spending a lot of time focused on pendant lighting lately, the best kind, the statement kind. But this girl is on a budget and so the fixtures I seek must accommodate my wallet’s limitations. Great overhead lighting is the jewelry in a room, it can be silver, gold, bronze, textured, or colorful, but it’s the finishing touch on a fantastic space and not to be overlooked. Am I right?

So many light fixtures that I adore cost a small fortune aka money I should be saving for my kids’ college funds. Jonathan Adler, your fixtures are hotness, but dang, they’re pricey. Oly Studio, same thing. I love you, but I can’t afford you. So a girl’s got to get smart, hunt down deals, watch what fixtures pops up on flash sale sites, and shop at stores that offer affordable options, maybe even create a DIY version inspired by high end designs. Like these.

Looking to upgrade your overhead chandelier on a budget? The following fixtures are all under $250! statement lighting under 250

metal strap, $99 / semi flush sputnik, $199 / metal globe $199 / firefly $199 / stockholm $99 / faceted capiz $159 / ikat drum $99 / wooden $188 / georgetown $149 / stiletto $229 / marlowe $129 / glass orbs $199 / apollo, $241 / mod euro $169 / jasper $249

Flash sale sites are another great way I score lighting at a discount. I’m patting myself on the back at this recent find, a gloss white rattan pendant purchased with credit from Joss & Main at half the price (below) than retail (above). Perfect for a dining space I’m working on …

I’ll be spending tomorrow packing up the moving truck and then we’re off to Nevada to begin our renovations and celebrate the Fourth with our extended family. I’ll have much home improvement goodness to share in the upcoming weeks, I’m really excited! .

  1. I’ve been going nutso for pendant lighting as well – good to know about the flash sale sites! I’ve also had luck at online and brick & mortar outlet stores as well. Good luck with moving!

  2. I love this post! I am so drawn to rooms with great statement lights, but the ones I love usually cost a fortune. Definitely pinning this so I have more resources for inexpensive statement lights. Thanks!

  3. This is just what I need for my new apartment — affordable lighting! thanks for sharing!

  4. Ikea’s KNAPPA light is vey similar to the mod euro shown, and for only $25! I also noticed one at Lowe’s recently for around $30. I have my eye on that for an upcoming project. Good luck with the Nevada Reno, can’t wait to see it!

  5. I bought a chest from Josh and Main and the quality was extremely poor. I just felt like I threw my money out the window.

  6. I really love how unique those lamps are. They are all such great statment peices. I do agree with some of the other commenters that you can find similer styles cheaper at other places. It always helps to shop arounc.

  7. What an amazing deal you got on that rattan fixture!! I have never bought lighting on a flash sale site. I suppose if you already know what you want it is a great way to score a deal! Happy 4th of July Kate!

  8. High-five for that light fixture! That’s an awesome deal. I’d love to have more overhead lighting in our house, but we’re cursed with 8 foot ceilings, so it doesn’t make sense in a lot of our spaces. Really just the dining room and breakfast nook. Le sigh!

  9. The best deal I’ve found on a good quality lighting fixture is this drum shade from land of nod.

$99 for a large drum shade; I have two of them in my son’s bedroom. i’ve often considered purchasing more and painting them. Also, they accidentally sent me a brown one which I did not return and I’m thinking about replacing the fabric on it with something more fun. If you have any ideas for doing that, would love to hear!

  10. I have been looking everywhere for a new light fixture for my bedroom and couldn’t find what i wanted at a reasonable price until I found it here! Thanks for the post.

  11. I love the light fixture! Never really noticed how it really is JEWELRY for a room. I also love the paint color, do you know what it is?

  12. I want my “ceiling jewelry” to be under $50!! That starts w a stock-lot rental-unit ceiling light or I guess, “chandelier…” Making it awesome is a PROCESS… Can’t create an amazing apt ceiling art piece all at once… It’s a little bit here, a little more there… Even if it’s the last thing to be re-awesomed, it’ll totally be worth it!! Working on the walls and dining area first. I see renting as an incredible creative challenge!! Here we go!!! :)))
