ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape & Home Depot “Get It, Got It, Go” Summer Blog Hop

By Kate Riley May 8, 2014

Hello everyone! Today I’m excited to announce a second round of the fabulous DIY event I hosted last year in partnership with ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape and The Home Depot. You’ll recall last year two dozen bloggers got creative with ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape and products from The Home Depot and I showcased all of the projects in the “Ready, Set, Paint” Blog Hop of 2013.

Well great news, the event is back and this summer there will be even more projects to share. This summer’s “Get It, Got It, Go” Blog Hop will include three dozen bloggers and their creative DIY projects and I’ll be hosting links to all the projects right here – the projects featured will help inspire this year’s painting season!

I’ve been using ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape for years, it’s my go to for all things paint related when I need to tape off drawers for furniture makeovers or lines for painting stripes. For me, it won’t peel up any layers of paint underneath and still seals for protection or perfect lines, I even use it around the house to help evenly hang artwork!

I’ll be featuring all of the DIY projects here and linking back to this landing page over the course of the summer. To kick off the “Get It, Got It, Go!” event, we built this Modern Pet Bed for friends and their two pups, click on the image to read the full tutorial!

  1. I’ve been using Blue painter’s tape for my projects as well. It’s got a super clean border when removing the tape and paint doesn’t crack too. I’ve been using the tape all over the place with some projects I’m trying out.

  2. The Color Block Umbrella Table inspires me because it is such a functional yet pretty piece.

  3. I love the diamond painted rug! I’ve never thought to paint a rug before!

  4. It is such a simple idea, but I really like the faux frame paintings… a simple way to add clean but colorful artwork to your walls.

  5. I LOVE the BBQ storage rack. It’s awesome (and excellent BDay present inspiration!)

  6. Hmmmm….I love the painted out door rug and the Aztec Planter…cool! :)

  7. We just bought our first house, and board and batten is definitely on my mind! Such a big project, but it would really complete the vision I have for the house.

  8. The farmer’s market stand would be perfect on our back porch for our herb pots. I think I know what we’re doing this weekend…

  9. Definitely the outdoor rugs, possible painted or stained right on the concrete patio.

  10. The faux frame modern art project would be perfect for displaying one of my favorite artwork from my students!

  11. I love the painted planters! It looks like a project that even those of us that are not craft savvy could do.

  12. I love the workbench! My theory is if a work bench is pretty, I’ll do more work there!

  13. The striped workbench inspires me because I love the juxtaposition of the rustic wood with the modern white paint job.

  14. LOVE the board & batten walls project! I want to do this in a little hallway that connects my kitchen + living room to add some interest.

  15. I love the Aztec summer planter. I have a few planters on my back porch that could use a face lift just like this.

  16. I love the outdoor rug! It has been added to my project list this month. Thanks for the idea.

  17. I’m digging the Farmers Market Stand from Brooklyn Limestone! It’s time to up my DIY game a notch and give that a try.

  18. I would love to try the diamond Painted outdoor rug. I really want to spruce up my front porch.

  19. My mini dachshund would look just as cute in the Modern Pet Bed! That’s the project for me!

  20. I love the striped pots! How cute would it be to do some red white and blue stripes for the 4th?!

  21. That farmer’s market stand is adorable. That’s definitely a project I would love to try out!

  22. The farmers market stand is so cute! I would use it to hold herb pots. Great project!

  23. My favorite is the DIY Aztec Planter- Such a cool design using painters tape! I would have never guessed. Also- I have a plain planter at home that is begging for something a little more special than stripes. :)

  24. I think a painted rug would be perfect for my back porch AND some board and batten would look great in the entry way. Two projects were just added to the To Do list!

  25. Brooklyn Limestone’s farmers; market bench is really a neat idea.

  29. Definitely loving the board and batten, it’s been the one project I’ve had planned for well over a year but haven’t gotten to.

  30. I love the pet bed idea! No more foam beds being scooted around the floor!

  31. I really like the board and batten project as we are about to do the same in the hallway.

  32. I am loving the farmer’s market plant stand! I have a tiny yard and that would be a perfect way to utilize some vertical space.

  33. I’m dying to put up board and batten in our dining room – this gift card would allow us to do that!

  34. I can see getting my husband to get on board with one of my crafty DIY projects if it’s something to do with his BBQ tools! I love how that project jazzes up something so ordinary.

  35. That pet bed is adorable! I think it would be great in front of our low windows – just high enough for our cats to lounge and see out into the yard. I’d love to make one long one to go in front of the three windows in our living room, but those two would probably never leave it!

  36. I love the diamond painted outdoor rug. The colors are perfect and I’ve been in the mood to add a rug to our porch -this would be perfect.

  37. i love the diamond outdoor rug and the pretty planters! may have to get handy with my painters tape this summer too!

  38. I like the striped multi colored planters I also like the shop workbench.

  39. My family, friends, and I love enjoying time together on our front porch so I was especially inspired by Melissa of 320 Sycamore! 45. I love the Farmer’s Market Stand since my hubby is a farmer and all!

  46. I love the board and batten look. I’m trying to convince DH to do this for our bathroom.

  47. Ooh, I love those board & batten walls! We just bought our first house – a little rancher with a long, central hall – and I think it could use just that to spice up the hallway. Here’s hoping!

  48. I love the painted outdoor rug. I have the rug from World Market … now I just need to paint!

  49. It’s gotta be the Board & Batten Walls. I’m hoping to do something along those lines in my bathroom!

  50. My husband and I try to be outside as much as possible during the summer months and the spruced up summer porch is absolutely the next project we need to take on. We have some good bones to work with and now just need to focus on making it more comfortable and add some fun elements to enjoy it to the fullest this summer!

  51. I love the Spruced up Summer Porch. I’m working on my Brooklyn Rooftop deck now and can use all the ideas and inspiration i can find!

  52. Definitely the rug . . . been thinking about doing a bedroom rug for . . . . years. Maybe the tutorial will push me over the nervousness. :-)

  53. I’m not a stripes girl but love taping off areas before painting to get a faster finish and I’ve used it on walls, planters, furniture and even once on upholstery to create some angles for printing typography areas before upholstering onto the furniture. Works great and Home Depot is always my source. I do need some kitchen updates and the look forward to all the new ideas! Thanks.

  54. just noticed that striped workbench, I am already thinking of how I can stripe something in my home! Love it.

  56. I love the rug, and the umbrella table. I desperately need to spruce up my outdoor living space!!

  57. Love the board and batten projects. Wishing to make this update to my dining room! Just did a plank wall look on the lower half of a small bathroom and hoping to continue these types of updates to the other rooms.

  58. The board and batten walls tug at me. I am going to put that up my stairs this summer. Another great use for painters tape: I use it to seal meat wrapped in butchers paper in the freezer. Never releases, seals beautifully and I can write on it! Fabulous product with sooo many uses!

  59. I love the BBQ Tool Storage Rack idea! What a great way to organize!

  60. I really like the striped bench workshop. Using the tape and executing the color block effect gives it a modern edge.

  61. We are signing papers on our new house today! Yipeee! We finally get to be homeowners and cannot wait to get started on projects! I lOVE the batten and board idea and want to do it in our entry way. Thanks for the giveaway!

  65. The project that most inspired me, I would have to say is the diamond painted outdoor rug and the doggie bed.

  66. I’m inspired by the board and batten walls. This project is on my to do list for our entry. Neither my husband nor I are DIYers so it will be our first “adventure”!

  67. Great giveaway! I love the faux framed modern art, but they are all awesome!

  73. I love the dog bed…..We have a labradoodle…….I wonder if I can make one to fit her?

  74. I really love the faux modern art frame idea…I have a few blank canvases that I need to use. I have the perfect place to put them too and can’t wait to get my 3 year old to help. He makes great “modern” art with great enthusiasm.

  75. I love the cute little dog bed. Now if I could just get my dog to lay in something like that instead of on the furniture…

  76. Love the Faux Frame Modern Art project! I’ve been wondering what to do with a blank canvas I have.

  88. I love the striped flower pots! Will certainly have to try that one!

  89. I really like the modern pet bed idea. I am the volunteer coordinator for a local dog shelter and these beds look perfect for the summer. Not too hot, lifted off the ground – and I think our volunteers would love painting them!!

  90. I have used the blue painter tape for years and it always does the trick and comes off easily. I recently painted my hall bathroom cabinets white, and there was ALOT of taping in the bathroom. So worth it to get the white cabinets I’ve always wanted. Next up is painting the living room, dining room and master bedroom in shades of blue. Can’t wait!!

  91. Definitely inspired by the Color Block Umbrella project. I purchased mine without a base, and this is a good excuse as any to build one!

  115. I love the simplicity of the faux framed modern art! It makes DIY art look like high-art.

  116. I am in no way organized to keep my grilling tools on a rack, but I am particularly intrigued by Heather’s project. I would not have believed that different stain colors could be successfully segregated by painter’s tape – ESPECIALLY not when a stained area bordered an unstained area. I am impressed! This opens up entirely new possibilities in furniture refinishing.

  143. I am completely inspired to tackle all of the wonderful projects! But if I had to pick one I would start with a striped indoor collection of herb pots painted with fresh spring blue hues!

  144. I love the idea of painting terra cotta pottery! I have an herb garden in all different sizes of terra cotta pots I’d love to give some color to.

  145. I love the “Aztec Inspired Planter” – it seems so simple, yet would look fantastic on our patio!

  146. I am inspired by the diamond outdoor rug. I have a sisal runner with a little color damage that could use this technique to cover the damage and make it new again.

  156. Love the color block umbrella table. Seeing some shade in my future!

  157. I have a boring tan outdoor rug just like that. What a great idea to paint it! I think I may do green, blue, and yellow instead of white because I have yellow pillows on our porch. Thanks for the idea!

  158. Really liked the diamond painted outdoor rug. I’ve been looking for a certain color combo rug & now I can do it myself

  159. Love them all – but I just love the simplicity of making a plain flower pot pop with stripes!

  174. Love how Scotch Blue Painter’s Tape can help create such crisp lines in all the projects! This non-crafts-y person is inspired to attempt a project! I have some antique pieces (love the library cart!) that could use a lift with a coat of paint!

  175. I’m LOVIN that outdoor painted rug – just what I need to do for our new vintage camper restoration! I can match any theme with paint!

  196. I love the idea of the painted rug. It is a simple way to make a personalized rug. I am going to have to try this for my deck.

  197. I’m another one who loves the workbench. The crisp stripes really point out the warmth of the wood. I’m tempted to try it on an end table to make it a bit more contemporary.
