BOTB 2.28.14

By Kate Riley February 28, 2014

Hello everyone! We are getting pummeled with rainstorms right now, we need the water but it’s pretty gloomy here which makes for a lot of indoor time. I’m going to try to make it to see at least one of the films up for Best Picture – would you believe I’ve seen 0 out of the 10. Sad but true, I’m woefully behind on my movie watching this year. Which one do you think should we watch and which should win?

In other random news, I’ve been working out at the gym a lot lately and made the mistake of asking Matt to increase the intensity of my leg routine – ordinarily I just hit the machines but yesterday he had me doing these super intense lunges and bar squats with extra weight. He warned me to take it easy and I was like “I got this!” and now I look at my staircase with fear and loathing every time I have to go upstairs because it hurts so bad. Remind me that I should not ask my husband to ever play personal trainer again. Ever.

But it’s time for another Best of the Blogosphere – Amanda and I rounded up our favorite spaces and links like we do every two weeks. You’ll love this beautiful and classic kitchen makeover by Emily Hewett at House Beautiful, don’t miss the before!

  1. I’ve only seen 4 of the nominations. But Captain Phillips is the one I would reccomend you watch. it was really good! Great round up this week :)

  2. Thanks for featuring my DIY art ladies! Kate, I am in the same boat with you and the legs. I took a new weight/cardio class and this week my butt and legs feel like jelly…but they ache. But, at least we are pushing ourselves, right?! Happy Weekend! xo Kristin

  3. What a great collection of photos! I have only been following your blog for a short time, but I love these ‘best of’ posts. Thanks for cheering up what has a otherwise been a cold, blizzardy day. Yes, I know that isn’t really a word, but it should be. Sue

  4. So, I have had a drum shade sitting here to use as a cover for almost the exact same light in our family room, but couldn’t figure out a way to attach it. Elastic!?!?!? GENIUS! I’m heading to Hobby Lobby right now to pick some up! Thanks to all of you! :)

  5. I’m with you on the fear of staircases. I went to Cross Fit this week for the first time, and after an hour workout, my legs and arms feel like Jello. Each day it gets worse and I keep thinking I’ll drop one of my babies walking up the steps. In the end, though, it’s worth it! Always love these roundups; thanks.

  6. I loved drooling over Sharon’s closet makeover. She really is fantastic. Some great reading you have suggested. Looks like I will be busy for awhile! Cheers.

  7. This year I’ve seen a lot of the movies, and there are some great ones! 12 Years a Slave is *amazing*, and my pick for best picture. Dallas Buyers Club is good too, and if Jared Leto doesn’t get the best supporting actor Oscar, I’m going to demand a recount. ;-). I heard Philomena is really good, but I haven’t seen it myself. American Hustle is good too. But if you have to pick just one, make it 12 Years a Slave.

Great projects, as always! Loving that kitchen, and wishing my garage was as organized as Amanda’s at Dixie Delights! On my spring cleaning list!

  8. I loved all of the featured items on this post! The kitchen remodel by Emily is fantastic! So many kitchens suffer with the wasted space of fur downs. Ashley’s idea of adding a shelf below is another great option! Dixie Delights managed to add a ton of storage and a mudroom alternative. I will be strongly considering doing this when we buy a house! Amy’s drum pendant cover up is a fabulous option for renters like myself!

    Great post!
