NYC: Your Suggestions Please

By Kate Riley August 28, 2013

My friends, I’m very excited! I’m leaving for New York City at an early hour on Friday morning and I’m meeting my sister there for three days of uninterrupted “girls-in-the-city” time. It’s been 7 years since we made the trip together, the last time we went with just the two of us I was pregnant with my son so it was fun but in a limited sense (translation: morning sickness & no booze). We talked and laughed and acted like tourists until our voices were hoarse and we couldn’t talk anymore. Having a sister who gets your sense of humor and is willing to join you in a big metropolis for crazy new adventures makes for a good time.

I’ve been to NYC before on business and also for a few personal trips. I’ve done all the major touristy stuff: Empire State Building, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial, The Met and Guggenheim, etc. We’re staying in Midtown so we can go anywhere quickly and we have tickets to Sleep No More so we’re excited about that.

My question is this, can you suggest any other ‘off the beaten path’ adventures? Quirky cool boutiques? Great little places to eat? Fun things to see?  Streets or neighborhoods to explore? Have you read any resident New Yorker posts lately that spill the beans on the best places to visit?  I’d love to hear your suggestions or read about your recent NYC adventures.  Thanks!

  1. Hi Kate, I hope this is not too late. But I love a Tea place in the Upper West Side (and East side as well). Alice’s Tea Cup is located on 73rd St and Columbus Ave (http://alicesteacup.com). They have a HUGE variety of tea and yummy pastries, cakes and sandwiches. We celebrated our daughter’s 8th birthday there and also a friend’s baby shower so it’s pretty much for everybody, I’ve even seen couples going for breakfast! Hope you have fun in NY!!
(PS: I would love to meet you if your schedule permits :)
