My oldest girl is home for the summer and we’re loving her company. She comes and goes like any 21 year old, popping in to say hello before she’s off to a class or a get together with friends. Her younger sibs play rock-paper-scissors in the evening for the chance to snuggle with her in her bed at night, it’s a cute evening ritual. She’s returning to college in San Diego in the fall, but completing some classes while she’s home and it’s so great having the whole family together even if just for this short season.
Her room is also the guest room while she’s away, and we’ve both wanted to upgrade it from how it looked when she was in high school to make it more sophisticated. New linens and accessories now complete the space she calls home when she’s home.
I bought a pretty gold leaf accent table at Overstocks for her nightstand that’s a replica of a high end World’s Away version, Reichel even featured it on her blog a few weeks ago. The dark raspberry pink lamp is from Lamps Plus and the navy upholstered bed is from Joss & Main.
The duvet and shams are Pottery Barn’s Calista Floral pattern, purchased on sale. I also bought Kerry Cassill’s indigo pillowcases and a seaglass watercolor pillowcase (I sewed a pillow cover using this envelope pillowcase tutorial.)
We rearanged the room so she’d have more space, and it meant sacrificing this bench but we gained a console table that I found at HomeGoods and painted white and gold – a series of beach prints by Lisa Russo hangs above it.
And a few other previous projects in this space:
Nailpolish Abstract Art + Gold Striped Vase
The room is small but pretty and perfect for her, and also a beautiful space for guests to stay too, I especially love all the blue and white, I just never get tired of it!
.
Love the unique bookends!
I’m a dedicated reader and I have a niece (25) who is the weekend supervisor at the San Diego State library if that’s where she goes! Room looks great!
BEAUTIFUL! Love the curtain panels – where are they from??
Did you end up painting the walls? They don’t look like the blue/green color in the older posts. It looks more grey now. Very beautiful space!
I love this so much!! The blue and white is beautiful!!
Hi Kate,
I love the bedding! I’m wondering if your shams are standard or euro? I’m redoing my guest bedroom as well and struggling with layering pillows and making it interesting.
Thanks!
What a beautiful space! I love everything about it, but I think the side table and the console table are my favorites.
I absolutely LOVE that blue dresser, such a beautiful shape!
I’m with you – blue and white never get old for me, especially the dark shade you have on the bed here! Loving the pops of red and gold in the room. What a calm, happy space for your daughter and your guests :)
Very Pretty! I Love the bedding and the gold side table.
Jen =)
I love everything about this room! The bed is gorgeous and I like the gold touches throughout the space. What a great place for your guests to relax.
Kate – I love this room, and especially the curtains! Could you please share where they are from?
Thanks!!!
Curtains are my pattern Catherine, hopefully available next month!
Such a beautiful mix of pattern and color! Love it!
The room might be small but it’s very welcoming and it feels very warm. Beautiful
Lots of love

Just gorgeous! I’m a huge blue & white fan and the raspberry pinks that you add it are lovely and keep the room looking more feminine and not nautical as a blue/white/red room would lean towards. Love the gold & glass table; when my kids are out of the “smear it and break it” phase I’d love to have a similar one.
I absoluately love the blue and white combo! It’s so calming. That gold side table is fabulous too. Great job!
I know you guys are loving the whole family home for a bit. The room is perfect!
The room is stunning, kate!! so welcoming and chic…I’m moving in when she goes back to college!!
Love the gold accents, and of course the beach photos. Its is a wonderful space, if I were a guest I would never want to leave!!
I love that even though its blue and white it has whisps of other colors. Very refreshing and beautiful.
Hi,
I’m having a hard time following the layout from the pictures. Can you post a pic of the whole room or maybe a sketch to show your space planning? Seems like you packed a lot in very efficiently!
Thanks,
Kristin
such a lovely room! love the rich colors!
Such a lovely room. Warm and modern. Well done Kate! Love the curtains too!
The prints look so lovely, Kate!
Thanks Lisa, you’re work is beautiful!
I would love to know where to find the frames/mats you used for the Lisa Russo Beach Prints – Thanks SO MUCH!
Those frames are from Michaels Elizabeth, I hit up their frame sale last weekend and had a 15% coupon on top of that, woot!
Absolutely beautiful….very fresh & so pretty! I love the blue & white!

So pretty! Blue and white is my favorite combination. How is the quality of the Joss and Main bed? I’ve been intrigued by that one for a while, but have been waffling simply because I haven’t seen it in person!
Hi Whitney, it’s good! I actually bought it late last year, I’m thinking I paid around $400 for the bed. We finally assembled it two weeks ago – the headboard is adjustable too, you can raise and lower it and the frame is pretty sturdy.
The navy linen fabric is gorgeous too.
Kate
Gorgeous!! I will be first in line to purchase curtains you’ve designed – how exciting!
Beautifully done Kate. I am sure your daughter loves her newly decorated room and how nice to have her home for the summer. I am looking forward to your fabrics becoming available!! I have been eyeing those curtains.
Gorgeous! I love the colors and combination of the gold night stand with the elegant navy headboard. Very inspiring.
Great job! I love everything. My bed stands pretty tall. Any tips on how to “alter” a side table/night stand, to make it come up to the mattress height? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Your brass night stand is so chic…
Love this space – it is the perfect combination of pretty and sophisticated! Beautifully done! Love everything, but especially the pops color and how you took a table from HomeGoods and made it unique.
What a beautiful room; I love the updates you’ve given it. The navy bookcase inner is fantastic, as are the beach images and the bedside lamp. Great job!
love the combination of patterns and choice of colors with a pop of raspberry.
So, tasteful. Pinned.
That room would be pretty and perfect for anybody! Lucky girl! I love how you layer your accessories- I need to get better at that. I am also loving those beach prints. Inspiration to frame my own!
That set of framed beach prints is such a great idea! Gorgeous!
OMG, j’adore! :-) This room makes me fall in love with raspberry + indigo + brassy gold. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
Lovely! Did I miss where the lumbar pillow was from?
What a beautiful room for your girl and any lucky guest! The blue speaks to tradition while the accessories keep it fresh – love it.
Everything you do is so flawless, the FEELING of this room is one of light and happiness. I love it!
where did you get the wave photos.. I must have!!
Ooh such a lovely, airy space. Your daughter is lucky! Are those blue flowers in the vase real? I’m secretly hoping they are artificial (not that they look it). If they are artificial, please do share where they’re from : )
Hello Julie, they are real, picked them up at the market!
beautiful.. looks great
I’m absolutely purchasing those photos for my guest room. What size did you hang? They look like 8 x 10 but I can’t be sure.
Such a beautiful room!
