Friday Finds

By Kate Riley February 22, 2013

Hello!  So glad it’s Friday and the forecast is no rain! We’re doing a major “stuff purge” this weekend and getting rid of all that is unnecessary in our lives – I predict several trips to Goodwill. The trick will be not to go in the front and grab any more. :) Here’s a roundup of some favorite spaces and links from this week.

It’s not often I find a home tour where I love each and every single room and not one but TWO caught my eye this week. The first is by Julie Nightingale Design, so fresh, modern, and welcoming, take the tour.

The second is this Lake View Residence by Staples Design Group, I love all the contrast, lighting, and furnishings in this home, here’s the tour

Holly opened an Etsy shop and the knitted blankets she sells at Hey Oyster are the perfect sofa accent – I love them all.

  1. I love Goodwill, and while I think it is a charitable org., after reading a book called “7” by Jen Hatmaker, I realized that it might be better to donate to churches and other org. with a homeless ministry that give the stuff away for free to those in need, especially clothes and appliances. Just a thought :). That book will make you want to live with next to nothing (in a good way!).

  2. I have to say, I love my household “clutter” purges! It’s like a weight is lifted off your shoulders when you’re no longer surrounded by extraneous items. Our local Goodwill probably recognizes our truck from all our donation runs; though they see us much less often now that we’ve been successfully curbing our urges for disposable “stuff.”

Also, I love love love the knitted blankets! There’s just something so wonderful about wrapping yourself up in a blanket that wasn’t made in some mass-production factory. :)

  3. Have you ever thought about using Pick Up Please? They pick up at your door – no multiple trips, and they benefit the Veterans. Just thought I would share that. They pick up in my area twice a week.
Good luck with the purge!! Your posts make me want to be me organized… and slowly I am getting there. Now to convince my husband we need to redecorate.

  4. That trick on how to find the center of a board? OH MY GOSH SO HELPFUL! Math really makes my head hurt, so I’m so glad you shared this! Thanks!

  5. I did love both house tours but really I love your house better. Your house looks like a “home” with real live people living in it. Beautiful and elegant yet REAL. These ones looked “staged” or “done”. Please don’t get me wrong – I did love them – I just didn’t see me living there or even “sitting” there.

  6. Agree with ya Jessie…everything is beautiful but the first house was WAY too symmetrical. Loved all the fabrics, arrangement just wasn’t my style.
