We celebrated a milestone birthday with a good friend over the weekend, it was an intimate crowd of 25 gathered together to celebrate our doctor friend’s 50th birthday. As our friend Brian stood to give a toast over dinner to thank his friends for coming, he started by reminding us he is a heart specialist and so many of his clients are elderly and looking at the last years of their life.
Brian shared that a common sentiment among his patients was that their biggest regret was not having spent time living life to the fullest, and how important it is to really live in the present, and fill your life with the laughter of friends and family.
The entire evening really was an expression of that principle, and we didn’t realize that six hours had passed so quickly between all of us because we had spent it talking and laughing and sharing good wine. So when I mentioned I wanted to start the week with encouragement, this was the quote that came to mind!
This week, I’m encouraging you all to “live the width” and live life to the fullest!
All three printable versions of the quote available here:

We also made progress on the new shelves in the office, I’ll be sharing that DIY project later this week and some pictures taken with my new 35 mm lens too!

Great words Kate!!!
Love your blog.. it has become my favorite!!!!
A beautiful and very meaningful sentiment!
I don’t want to get to the end of my life and find I lived just the length of it. I want to have lived for Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior and know that heaven is awaiting me. John 3:16
This is a great reminder and something that I am focusing on this year, thanks for the printable! :)
Awesome post…thank you!
As an RN to geriatric patients, I can appreciate your friend’s sentiment. It makes you realize how short life is so I don’t wait to do things any longer. I do them now and I’m so much happier for it because each new experience opens up another door I never imagined.
Amen! A salient point for anyone’s 50th birthday party, even more so coming from a physician who cares for folks as they’re in the position of looking back and considering what they wish they’d done. Thank you for sharing this!
How lovely and what a great reminder. Glad to hear you had such a nice time with your friends :-)
Thank you so much for this printable. As I am trying to figure out my new stage in life, this quote is so applicable. I have printed it and hope to frame it and place it on my desk.
Thanks for the words of wisdom! I passed them along in a post I just wrote. http://turnedtodesign.blogspot.com/2013/01/three-tips-i-learned-of-late.html
