Traditional Home Showhouse Tour

By Kate Riley October 8, 2012

Last week I was invited to the opening event for the Traditional Home Napa Valley Showhouse event and was so excited to attend!  I love to read about the Showhouses all over the country but never get a chance to visit due to distance, so I was really happy to hear Traditional Home was hosting a showhouse out here in Wine Country, one I could actually attend!

I arrived a little late but I was able to take some pictures of the spaces before the sun went down.  When you enter you are greeted by century old hound dog statue from France.  I asked what his name was because of course every good statue of a dog requires a name.  He didn’t have one, so I dubbed him Beauregard.  It fits doesn’t it?

Inside are several spaces from formal to casual decorated by both renowned and upcoming interior designers with a fresh take on Napa style.  The formal dining room featured shades of emerald green and indigo, taking a cue from the peacock on a pedestal.  This room had really great combination of color and texture, the console and lantern sconces are my favorite.  Room design by Lucas Studio Interior Design.

Here is the “library” space which seems more like a parlor to me since there are no books, and it greets guests at the entrance to the house.  I love a coffered ceiling with a statement glass chandelier like this!  Design by Cathleen Gouveia.

I love the large scale abstract, but my favorite accent (other than that amazing chandelier) is the petrified wood slab accent table between the velvet chairs, so gorgeous up close!

The living room was designed by several designers from Sunrise Home and decorated in neutrals and warm tones.

By far my favorite pieces were the upholstered linen bookcases on opposite sides of the fireplace. This image doesn’t capture their gorgeousness in person but they were upholstered with nailhead trim and I loved them and I wanted to caress them and adopt them for my own.

Now this is a cool concept – a textured sisal rope mirror with shaggy fringe.

You can never go wrong with a medley of twigs and moss covered branches in a tall vase!  Branches have fantastic sculptural quality and clipping a bunch is such a great way to bring the outdoors in.

Here’s the blissful outdoor sitting area off the living room with views of the surrounding vineyards below.  Notice how the fabrics pull their palette from the stone facade.

The kitchen and great room are open to each other and they were designed by Barbara Colvin & Co. The family room space was a mix of neutrals with various shades of green popping up in the accessories.

Behind the sofa was a gigantic table that the homeowner insisted on keeping so the designers gave it a fresh look with mixed chairs and upholstered benches.

The open kitchen is a mix of charcoal gray cabinets, thick Carrara marble top island, and bright green stools which keep the look modern and fun.

On the opposite kitchen wall was this reproduction country store cabinet unit with a patina finish. It was filled with canned goods, wine glasses, and other cookware.

Off the great room are not one but two outdoor sitting areas on the terrace, one for dining, another for lounging.   Green is so seasonless and ties in with the lush citrus and olive trees that surround the balcony.  Design by Matthew O’Dorisio Design.

Inside there were two bedrooms, the first is the spacious and elegant master bedroom was decorated in neutrals and gold finishes.   Interior design by Melanie Turner.

The master sitting area had more touches of gold and two hooved feet stools.  Beautiful sofa and bolster pillow!  Whenever I spy stools with feet like this I’m reminded of Mr. Tumnus.  :)

Next to the bed was a desk and vignette which I thought was divine, especially the huge olive tree branch and the arrangement of artwork.

I loved all the interiors but I was especially drawn to the outdoor sitting areas, just about every room had one which made sense when a house is situated among vineyards in the Napa Valley.   This one was so idyllic, I’d love to have my morning coffee here every.single.day. thank you very much.

Opposite the bed was a blue velvet tufted sofa with a grouping of faceted tables in front and a gold stump accent table (heart!).

Off the guest room is another outdoor sitting area with a bright yellow zebra pattern fabric on the chairs.  Nice view right?

There are several other spaces to see too, including the entry courtyard, the wine cellar, the bathrooms, and another lower bedroom.

Mixing good design and great wine?  That’s my kind of event!  Thanks to Kari Costas at Meredith and Traditional Home for including me among the attendees!

The Traditional Home Showhouse is located on the Cardinale Winery Estate and all the proceeds from the tour benefit the Napa Valley Film Festival.  The Showhouse will be open to the public from October 5 through November 11, view admission fees and more details here

  1. Beautiful house! I think the designers missed an opportunity in the kitchen to install some amazing backsplash tile but it looks clean the way it is I suppose. I love the photo of the desk area in the master bedroom. The orientation of the olive branch and the way the art of the gallery wall is hung makes it look like everything is being blown to the right….great effect! As always, amazing photos!

  2. I love the country store cabinet and all the outdoor spaces. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Great, classic design everywhere except those deer leg stools, which make me sick to my stomach just to look at them. Why would anyone that was okay?! I can’t think of a less appealing thing to put in the bedroom than hacked-off animal legs arranged at unnatural angles. Yuck. The rest of the space is so natural and neutral; it had such amazing potential. Just goes to show you how one giant misstep can take a room from envy-inducing to cringe-inducing. *Shudder*

  4. Um….I’m underwhelmed by the entire home. Except for the little, outdoor sitting area off the living room, I find the home a hodge-podge mix of this and that – nothing is cohesive and none of the spaces compliment others. Grade – Meh! :(

  5. What finish was used on the walls in the “library?” I love the warm color in there.

  6. Wow! The place is majestic, for sure every one is dreaming in having such a beautiful house. I like its “outdoor sitting area” where you could see your garden and other scenery. Perfect!

  7. That country store cabinet is absolutely amazing. I don’t have space for anything like it, but I can dream.

  8. What a stunning home! I’m totally in love with the country store cabinet unit. So vintage and so beautiful! I wonder if it could be a DIY project? I’d love to have that in my future kitchen!

  9. I wasn’t “underwhelmed” necessarily but I did get a really “cluttery” feel looking at most of the pictures… I didn’t like the kitchen bar stools at all… as well as those huge chairs in the dining room. Not to mention the hooved stools as someone mentioned above. What I can’t discern is whether this is because most of it is just “not my taste” or if it really wasn’t cohesive. I’m not a fan of clutter either way and it did feel like there was a large amount of it, although certain spaces did appeal to me.

  10. I don’t know how I missed this post, but am glad I saw it tonight. Do you have any info on that chandelier in the dining room? I agree it’s amazing. I saw a similar one several years ago & have regretted not buying it, so would love to make up for that now. Thanks, Kate.
