By Kate Riley June 24, 2012

Sunday greetings y’all!  I feel the need to say “y’all” having spent the last week in Georgia and I’m brewing some sweet tea as I write, love that stuff!  It’s great to be home and back to work, I’m excited for the upcoming week.  I’ve got a few projects in the works right now and can’t wait to share them, but hey, it’s BOTB weekend so Amanda and I are here to highlight some of the best ideas we’ve seen, including a few inspiring knock offs, here ya go!

This backyard hideaway at the Handmade Home totally rocks our world, Ashley and her husband built this backyard fort for their wee ones, and it’s amazing!

A top to bottom kitchen makeover caught our eye this week. See how Jessie from Cape 27 brought modern beauty to a dated space.

Viva Terra’s Gustavian bed is a stunner, but pricey at $1,895.  Enter Suzie at The Accent Piece who built this charming rustic bed with scrap wood, so genius!

Here’s a charming idea for your next picnic, this pocket lined basket for your utensils and snacks, and how clever is the suggestion that you use the basket on your bicycle!  Via Design*Sponge.

  1. I have a question for you, Kate! I love all of your work and you have totally inspired me to tackle some painting projects on different furniture pieces… One of which is an old dresser. When it comes to the hardware, I love the shape and style of my drawer pulls but they are “sassy brassy”. I want to try spray painting them, but my pulls have “moving” parts and I wondered in your experience if the paint will make the pieces stick together and no longer operate correctly? I’ve wondered the same when I’ve seen people paint doorknobs in the past. I appreciate the help!

    • Hi Lauren, great question, it’s easy to spray paint hardward with non moving parts but like you said, if there are moving parts, the paint can wear off with use. I’ve done it on less frequently used cabinetry (hardware on an armoire) and it’s held up fine. I’ve read a few tutorials online about spray painting doorknobs, it’s a great quick fix if you use good spray paint like RustOleum.

  2. Even with no kids around, I’m lusting after the backyard hideaway, for me.
All the projects are lovely, thank you.

  3. Holy smokes, this is the coolest thing ever!!! I’m just sitting down to my almost three page post-Haven to do list with “email Kate” right at the top of it and hop on over to find this.

Thank you so much for letting me interrupt your personal time and indulging me for a bit at Haven. And congrats to you on such a successful event. Such a pleasure to meet you!! I really appreciate
    the feature. :)
