A Fun Diversion

By Kate Riley April 11, 2012

Hello all, I was browsing around the Better Homes & Gardens site today and stumbled across a Color Personality Quiz – have you taken it yet?  I dived right in and answered the 8 Questions asked.  What's Your Color Personality

Funny how my answer was no big surprise.

color personality bhg

.

For a fun diversion, take the quiz right here and tell me, what’s your color personality?   Would love to hear all the different answers!

  1. It didn’t seem to matter which combination of answers I gave, I always got colorful gray! Goes to show, I guess, that even if some of my answers are different the answer is the same! I do like those colorful grays!

  2. Mine is “Inky Blue,” which explains why I have a shade of blue in my bedroom, but I’m more of a grey type of gal. I take that back, I think all of my shades of grey in my home have some sort of blue in it. Ha!

  3. Apparently I am beige. I wasn’t happy with this result since I HATE beige. My next results came up with was Grey. Guess what? I HATE grey, too. Almost as much as beige. My final result was nautical blue. I can live with this but really I was hoping that I, too, was a Sea Glass girl. Color me disappointed. And apparently, very boring, too.

    • Oh no Suesan, that’s disappointing! Well, it’s only a quiz, what does it really know about you, right? I vote you are a Sea Glass girl if you wanna be!

  4. Mine is Moss Green, which is pretty cool considering I just built a large punee/daybed for my living room and had painted it Moss Green. Who knew!

  5. I have always gravitated towards the earthy tones so ‘Spice’ was not a total surprise…makes me hungry just thinking about it. This was fun, thanks!

  6. I was seaglass too, but I really think I am more of a spice girl. I am always falling for reds and yellows in my decorating choices!

  7. Fun! I got “Creamy Latte”. Kinda bland for me, but good for the basics. My house is actually mostly greys & blues with some yellow & green.

  8. I’m Coral! I don’t actually have that color in my house, but I do love orange, so I’m not averse to coral. It was a fun little quiz.

  9. This was entertaining :) My results were Spice, though I’d go Tuscan with it. And for a little extra fun, my husband took the quiz too – his results were Creamy Latte. Looks like our color personalities complement each other :)

  10. Hmmm I got Blush Pink….I could see a rockin’ 50’s era deco with pinks and charcoals. Never thought of that, I always thought I was a blue girl. Maybe, I’ll try it out next time around. I think the dark grey/charcoal/black accents would keep it from being overly girlie.

  11. I’m Spice apparently, which is totally not how my house is decorated, but I also totally don’t mind the image in the decorating guide either. Maybe I should consider adding more spicyness to my life;)

  12. colorful gray…I like that it mentions sophistication and serenity–I’d sure like to match that description!

  13. It took two tries but I finally got results – “Honey.” “This aptly named honey palette is sweet and homey, and it has natural, earthy underpinnings. The unassuming palette is meant to be restrained: the perfect backdrop for rich woods and soft textiles, or for bold patterns and accessories in striking accent colors, such as turquoise, pumpkin, or chartreuse.”

It reminds me of when I owned a 200-year-old house with my ex-husband and wanted the perfect shade of golden yellow on the hallway walls. I had splotches of six different colors all over to view it in all sorts of lights before I finally decided. It was a Martin Senour color which was available at the old Hechinger’s store at the time and I’d be hard pressed to find it again.

  14. I got moss green which isn’t surprising. I would paint my entire house in shades of green if DH didn’t hate it so much. lol. To compromise we will be using blue-greens like teal and turquoise. Fun quiz! I took that colortopia quiz that was floating around and I kept getting weird Laura Ashley pinks and yellows. :)

  15. I’m Citron! I shall take this to mean I am zesty, if not sometimes a little bitter :b And I suppose green is a logical choice for an ethical blog author…

  16. I tried the test multiple times and came up with three consistent results. First was maple gold, second was honey both are similar and the third was blush. I thought that this was interesting because I never thought of these colors to describe myself, but when I looked around my home my main living area is painted a golden color and my daughter’s room is a light rosy peach color.

  17. I am colourful gray- which is funny because that is what I plan on painting my condo! well, gray, i dont know how that is colourful. haha. I hopefully will be posting about it in a few weeks!

    Colorful Gray
This palette of colorful grays is a perfect balance of sophistication and serenity. Each hue bears the marking of another color (blue, green, purple, etc.), creating a neutral palette that is anything but dull. Pair with rich jewel tones for a luxe look, or with muted hues for a soothing rendition.

  18. I was honey, also! Natural, unassuming, restrained, and the perfect backdrop for striking accent colors, such as turquoise, pumpkin, or chartreuse. Sounds about right!

  19. I got honey, which is spot on. Most of my first floor is a very pale golden color!

  20. I am apricot. Definitely a surprise!
Apricot : Mellow yet sublime, like the fruit, this apricot palette is a restful rendition of the typically vibrant orange. The palette is an ideal candidate to pair with turquoise. Because apricot and turquoise are close cousins to the classics yellow and blue, you get the staying power of a tried-and-true color ensemble but with a new interpretation.

  21. Blush Pink….weird. I have nothing in my home that is pink. However…I have been thinking about painting my office pink.

  22. My result was Maple Gold which was absolutely accurate! I just finished painting our kitchen with my favorite color- a buttery yellow. I think it works wonderfully as a neutral; can be paired with so many other colors!

  23. I have taken this little quiz before and got the same results. Honey!! Funny thing is I don’t like yellows. Actually it is my least favorite color of all. Go figure.

  24. This is funny. For the space most in need of a make-over I put our bedroom. What’s my quiz color? Inky Blue. Color of my bedroom? Blue. Maybe I should just keep it, huh? :)

  25. I came up as coral, which works for me–there are a lot of corals I don’t care for, but the right shade is amazing. True for every color, actually.

  26. My result was Sea Glass too. While the colors are beautiful, my whole house is done in warm golds and terra cottas with accents of cooler colors, and I have no plans to shift gears. Fun quiz though!

  27. They decided that I was Seaglass kind of girl. I am definitely “beachy”. However, I lived in an apartment that was painted what I called Mint Chocolate Chip green or a little lighter and didn’t care for it. Now it’s suggested that I paint rooms in my home various shades of that color. Maybe what they saw in me was the interest in the blue undertones. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt…lol.

  28. Mine says blush pink. Although pink is my most favorite color ever, I wouldn’t decorate with it (besides my daughter’s hot pink room) :) But- her room is one of my favorites to sit and relax in because I love the pink. So maybe they’re right. :)

  29. I actually surprised by mine but I guess I shouldn’t have been :) My color was blush pink. Without realizing it or choosing not to, I chose paint colors for my home that have a lot of pink/lavender undertones!

  30. This test is fun but false…I would not choose CORAL if it were the last color in the world!

  31. First time I was moss green. And totally agreed with the woodsy stuff. Did it a second time cuz there was lots of answers I was an A or B, both are me….Second time I was sea glass.. I do have lots of shades of green in my house and clothes. 4 of my last furniture redo’s-green….Guess it’s me! Thanks for sharing the fun!

  32. My result was Coral. Not what I was expecting but I’m not bummed about that. I love coral actually. Every time I wear it I get tons of compliments. It is not incorporated anywhere in my home but it would actually work perfectly with the tile floor I’m going to put in my laundry/craft room. What a cheery laundry room that would be!!

  33. I am blush pink, which is a colour I like but have no pink in my apartment!!!

  34. Honey

This aptly named honey palette is sweet and homey, and it has natural, earthy underpinnings. The unassuming palette is meant to be restrained: the perfect backdrop for rich woods and soft textiles, or for bold patterns and accessories in striking accent colors, such as turquoise, pumpkin, or chartreuse.

While I really like honey colors, I haven’t used any in any house I’ve had, only a more lemony yellow with lots of grey-blue and grey-greens. But I am not opposed to the idea next time I want to change things up.

  35. My came up as Creamy Latte – which makes sense because it’s neutrals and I love to use neutral colors as my base and add a bit of color to that palette. That was fun! :)

  36. Sea Glass.
Currently doing a room in similar colors, so shouldn’t be a surprise to me! I have resisted using a lot of blue because my husband always wants everything either blue or white. The rooms in your house have helped me see the beauty of it. Thanks.

  37. I’m Coral. That was fun! I do have a lot of orange mixed with sea glass in my house.

  38. I am blush pink, but I really don’t like pink that much, and surely not for decorating. My boyfriend would think I am mad if I were to paint a room pink, and even I could not even imagine it. I think I’ll stick to my instincts.

  39. Nautical blues! I am dying to have a blue and white seashell themed bathroom. A bit expected but so calming!

  40. Yellows… Not so accurate! I just painted the great room Sea Salt.. And yellow (aside from a pop of yellow here and there) is my least favorite color. Lol

  41. Did anyone else have problems with this? I tried it in 2 different browsers (Safari and Firefox) and never got the results. I just painted my family room today, and I’m curious if it fits my personality because I’m having doubts.

  42. Sea Glass.
I’m sincerely surprised! I do love the color, but I don’t think there’s anything “mellow” or “cool” about my personality.

  43. “Colorful Gray” – kind of weird. I don’t use anything gray anywhere in my house.

  44. Odd because my favorite color is yellow.

  45. I’m Sea Glass as well! And I have the paint chip pile to prove it also! :-)

  46. I’m Sea Glass as well. And, that is spot on for me! It was a fun little quiz. I might take it a second time and see what it comes up with. I was split on a few questions.

This surprises me. I chose the living room right now which has blue and cream couches in it. Many of the other rooms in the house are in the golds and greens and browns. I bet if I would of choses spring instead of summer the colors would be different.

    Fun to do, thanks

  48. Mine came up as colourful grays… I let out a huge sigh of relief because that is the colour I want to paint our master bedroom!!!! :o)

  49. I got Sea Glass too, which I just don’t see in the living room, but my husband got creamy latte or some such, which is a nice combo.

  50. I got Market Green, which fits me perfectly. I already have a lot of green in my house, so it was not a surprise.

  51. Honey, which is spot on. My first house I painted the great room and entry way a honey/butter color. I’m currently renting and don’t want to paint but I would choose the same color again as everything seems to go with it. It’s a great neutral that has more depth than beige. As I look around I realize I live in a beige box with pops of blue, boring! Maybe I’ll put on a yellow shirt, LOL.

  52. No surprise that mine was Moss Green. If you had asked me what color I want to decorate with, that would have been one of the 2 colors that would have come to mind.

  53. Mine came out as a colorful pallette of gray. While it’s not my favorite color, it is a color I’ve been kicking around for our kitchen and then using a splash of red or yellow with it.

  54. hmmm- yellows and oranges??? Something I never have used in our home??? that was a fun test to take – wish I could of given 2 answers on some of the questions tho!!

  55. I’m Market Green. I do like all shades of green and recently painted a curio cabinet two shades of green!

  56. Colorful Grays. I was sure it would be something brighter, but then I realized I love adding bold colors to neutral palettes.

  57. COZY ORANGE! I LOVE Orange so this is perfect! Have lots of orange in my house!

  58. Creamy latte. I’m pretty conservative, I guess when it comes to paint. How did it know?

  59. Honey, though I’m sure the answer was skewed somewhat by the nature of some of the questions. I generally tend to avoid carrying handbags. I would prefer traveling to an exotic location like Marrakesh, but SATC would have absolutely nothing to do with it. That sort of thing.

I was disappointed by this. Men can have color personalities beyond “football field green” or “baseball diamond terracotta” or “NASCAR track grey” or “unnecessary violence red”, too! And men, too, can desire Better Homes and Gardens.

    Great idea, though.

  60. That was pretty fun, haven’t done a “quiz” since high school! My color was Honey–which I love for individual crafts or lighting up a room. Though, I’m not sure if I would paint a room other than the kitchen or nursery in yellow ;)

  61. Gray

These tried-and-true grays are a perfect stand-alone palette, as the varying tones introduce depth and visual interest for a monochromatic look. This versatile palette can be paired with almost any hue, depending on the look you crave. Try mustardy yellows and creamy whites for an on-trend look; blues and greens for a sea-inspired space; or one or two jewel tones to give the gray tones a little spice.

This kinda suprised me at first, but the more I thought about it, the more it makes sense. I love all kinds of colors and like to play with different things, so having gray as a background would make that easy to do!

  62. I’m a colorful gray also and to tell you the truth it’s been growing on me! I used to think Ugh! Gray, how industrial/institutional — even when Ty Pennington was using it! But lately I have to say the serenity of it has been growing on me and I like it — which kinda sucks because I have all brown tone neutrals for a king size quilt I’m making for our bedroom! I may have to make a reversible quilt! :)

  63. Too funny! I got Gray and one of the colors they featured was the exact one I used in my bathroom re-do! Dolphin Fin by Behr, but I lightened it by 25%.

  64. I got “Sea Glass” also. The question about unexpected company cracked me up. You don’t want to look in my closets……

  65. Colorful Gray: This palette of colorful grays is a perfect balance of sophistication and serenity. Each hue bears the marking of another color (blue, green, purple, etc.), creating a neutral palette that is anything but dull. Pair with rich jewel tones for a luxe look, or with muted hues for a soothing rendition.

  66. I got “Sea Glass,” too – probably one of the reasons I love your blog so much! I just did a scrapbook page about how when we moved into our house, the first thing we did was paint all the walls – going from oranges and yellows to blues and greens!

  67. I did this with my boys, too (ages 6 and 9) – modifying the questions somewhat and guessing based on their personality for a few others and totally came up with their favorite colors – Citron for my younger and Latte for my older. Too much fun!

  68. That was fun. Here is my color, which seems right:
    Moss Green

Preppy meets outdoorsy with this moss green palette. The slightly yellow undertone gives these greens zip, but because the hues are inspired by woodland moss, the palette maintains an earthy aura. Pair it with saturated brights for an exotic look, cheery pinks and yellows for a preppy statement, or any shade of brown for woodsy appeal.

  69. Huh! Just like my hair… Apparently I’m turning to the grey-side. But.. after looking at it, I guess it makes good sense. Unlike my hair.

  70. I did it a couple times because I was torn on a couple of the answers. First result coral, then sea glass, then colorful grey. :)

  71. I got “Colorful Gray” which is totally accurate. I love grays with pops of color. In fact I have about 4 rooms in my house different shades and patterns of gray. Is that bad?

  72. Sea glass! That’s me. Anything beachy. A little more blue green than just green. I could have got Coral, which I love, love and grey, my new favourite neutral and would be just as happy!

  73. I was torn between two answers on one question so I took it twice with both answers and got different results with just the one change. First time I got moss green, which seems pretty accurate, and second time I got Sea Glass, which is also pretty accurate. That was fun!

  74. Grey! Hmmmm. How did they know I wanted to paint the room that color with punches of red and yello?

  75. I got creamy latte which is what I’m attracted to in magazines, etc. My home, though, has more green than anything…

  76. Apricot
Mellow yet sublime, like the fruit, this apricot palette is a restful rendition of the typically vibrant orange. The palette is an ideal candidate to pair with turquoise. Because apricot and turquoise are close cousins to the classics yellow and blue, you get the staying power of a tried-and-true color ensemble but with a new interpretation.

I am not really a apricot….. I didn`t use it around me, I think sea glass is much better!mhhhh

  77. I got sea glass, too! Thought the questions were somewhat odd, but the end result seemed pretty on target! I tend to decorate with white, soft blues and grays. Very cool colors. Not much in the way of warm tones in my house.

  78. i think they got it wrong. i am not or have never been a blush pink or pink of any kind of a girl. my favorite colour is green. me personally i think of myself as more of a sea glass personality. have to admit it was fun and interesting not to mention rather enlightening.

  79. I got honey…interesting..I am a fall palate person..love muted burgundy’s, greens, gold colors..like Tuscan palattes..
