Crimson & White Christmas Tree
December 14, 2011
Today is the last of the Holiday Home parties, and Sarah is hosting Christmas trees, so it’s the perfect occasion to show you ours. Just like last year (and because it reminds me of my grandmother who always had the same) I picked up another flocked tree at a local lot. Instead of a tree skirt, we placed it in a wine barrel for a rustic look. I’m using up all of my red decor this year, so the tree is covered in various favorite ornaments and also bulbs and flourishes in crimson shades.

Wedged in the tree are several branches of red berries for color and contrast.

Also several scarlet birds with gorgeous plumes ~ found on clearance after Christmas last year at Pier One.

Birch logs in a jingle bell bucket add more natural elements and nothing says Christmas more than the classic poinsettias. On the chair is one of the felt poinsettia pillows I made two years ago.

Silver pitcher and bowl found at my local thrift store earlier this year for a few dollars…

On the tree are many of our favorite ornaments, including some of the DIY versions I’ve created over the years. (find them here).

The kids have a Charlie Brown tree in their play space and I put up a little faux tree in our family room too with even more nostalgic and handmade ornaments placed there, but every year I do look forward to decorating the formal tree for this space.

Linking up to Sarah’s Christmas Tree party! Thanks to everyone who participated in the Holiday Home Link Parties, oh what fun!

I’m running around like crazy getting ready for our annual Christmas party this weekend, but I hope to have a few more pictures of our home to share in time for Nester’s Christmas Tour of Homes tomorrow.

So striking!
Gorgeous, Kate! Love it!
I love the use of the barrel (nice!!!!). Our 1st xmas in our new home, my hubby and I used a ‘carton’ to hold up our xmas tree … we had just purchased our home and received the keys ON Christmas Eve. At 1st we decided not to have an xmas tree bec we already had so much to do and last minute we changed our mind, found a perfect tree at Home Depot waiting for use, but we didn’t find a stand so the DIY in us created our own :) It was magical …. our xmas wish came true … spending Christmas day in our brand new home together.
And I used to mock those white xmas trees! Silly me. You’ve shut me right up. Love the mix of elegant and rustic.
Hi Sari, great question! A flocked tree is preserved, so there’s no need to water. We measured the diameter of the barrel and cut the stand down to fit just inside so it’s wedged perfectly. I think it would be trickier with a fresh green tree that needs water, you’d be better off having a live tree planted in a barrel, I think…. anyone else have any ideas?
