Tablescape Contest: Mark Your Calendar

By Kate Riley October 26, 2011

homegoods logo 1Hello ladies and gents, it’s that time of year where we’re all planning for the holidays and part of that is setting an inviting table.  Would you like a chance to win a gift card to HomeGoods by setting your holiday table and snapping some pics?

Well I’ve partnered with HomeGoods to host a holiday tablescape contest next month, right here!  It’s gonna be fun and filled with inspiration!

To get your creativity flowing, take a peek at a few helpful hints for setting a stylish table by interior designer Elaine Griffin.

I interviewed Elaine last year, and she’s one of my most favorite designers.  Elaine has also partnered with HomeGoods to create a series called ‘Design Happy’ – hop on over to check out her short videos, she’s sharing her best advice on everything from hanging art to arranging vignettes on a table.

Here’s how the holiday tablescape contest will work.  On Wednesday November 30th, the Link Party will be right here for one day, and here’s what’s up for grabs:

One Grand Prize Winner will receive a $100 HomeGoods Gift Card

Three Runners Up will receive a $50 HomeGoods Gift Card

To enter, you’ll need to style a holiday tablescape and post it on your blog on or before November 30, 2011, then link up to the party on that day. Or you can enter via email with a minimum of two different images sent to [email protected]

Tablescapes to be judged in the spirit of HomeGoods based on style, affordability, and  creativity.  The tablescapes must be fall or winter holiday related (Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, New Years, etc.) and must be set on a dining table (no mantels or bookshelves, etc.)  The panel of three judges who will determine the final winners includes myself, Rhoda from Southern Hospitality and Courtney from Courtney Out Loud

Here is the Date to Remember:

Tablescape Contest Link Party: Wednesday, November 30, 2011

(or enter via email to [email protected]  by midnight PST on 11/30/11, minimum two different images of your table)

Start thinking about the fabulous table you will set !!

Are you in?

  1. Oh, how fun! Tablescapes are not something I am at all good at (although maybe if I got to host Thanksgiving more often, I’d have more practice), so I will look forward to checking out the links!

  2. That sounds really fun! I look forward to trying my hand at it. We are a little family who just welcomed our first baby so we still I’ve in a one bedroom apartment and our table is a 30″ round, but I bet I can still dress it up to be beautiful! I hope small tables will get equal opportunity if they a done well :)

    • Of course Tammy, size doesn’t matter at all, bring your best table setting, can’t wait!

  3. I am SO excited!! Couple of questions: can you enter more than once with different tablescapes? Does everything need to be from HomeGoods (i.e. plates, table linens, etc) and since affordability is one of the criteria do we need to outline cost for each item?

    • HI Heather, great question! Nothing needs to come from HomeGoods at all! There is no purchase necessary to enter. One entry per person (I’ll update the rules to note that). A cost breakdown would certainly help but is not absolutely required.

  4. This is such a fun idea! I just read your other post about inspiration and am hoping that I can get myself into gear to be ready for this. Thankfully, I’m hosting both of our families (one for Thanksgiving) and the other two weeks later, so I will be busy decorating and hopefully have things done early :) Thanks for the inspiration that you always give me!

  5. Setting a table is my favorite thing and I have six sets of dishes and am always buying more. Can’t wait to enter.BTW, you were in my box this morning so it’s working again.

  6. This sounds like so much fun!

Is it OK to enter just to share a tablescape, but not to enter the contest? I’m in Canada and would LOVE to share some of my ideas, but I don’t want to enter the actual contest – considering we unfortunately don’t have the awesomeness of HomeGoods up here :-(

    Take care,

  7. I definitely think this is something that i could do and enjoy. I’m already nervous because there will be judges!

  8. I’m so excited for this contest!

Two quick questions: I know that you said no mantels, bookshelves, etc. Would decorating the chandelier over the table or hanging titems from the ceiling over the table be in that same category?

    Thanks!

    • Chandys and ceilings are fair game Jess! I meant the criteria should be for only dining room tables, but the spaces above it totally count!
