Featuring . . .

By Kate Riley March 2, 2011

G’day!  I was out and about yesterday, and finally picked up a copy of Flea Market Style magazine, I love this publication!  A big thank you to the editors for the mention under favorite blogs!  “Best for Gals Who Love Power Tools”  Yep, that’s me!

I also stumbled across this sweet little book in the bookstore and had to have it!

everything i know

At first I thought it would be more of a novelty, especially with the illustrations, but after reading it found it is filled with the best sentiments.

Like cheapest isn’t always best.  Quality truly counts most when it comes to life and home improvement.  Consider that hiring a professional is part of the fee that goes with your education.  When you observe the experts you gain the knowledge and confidence to do it yourself in the future.  Couldn’t agree more.  Thank you Felix, thank you Ramon, for what you’ve taught me.  “When we choose materials, tools, and professional assistance that is high caliber, we are choosing goodness.”  Amen.

know when to choose quality

Mistakes in home improvement and life are lessons to be learned.  “We all want a makeover because it feels like starting over.  Yet we forget that real change requires planning and hard work.  Practicing self control rather than taking a hammer to counter on a whim is the mature thing.”

mistakes create possibilities

Everything looks better in good light.  But of course!   “We can offer our family and guests an inner joy if we bathe them in the radiance and warmth of proper lighting.”  (Followed by tips for creating the best lighting in your home.)

everything looks better

Mostly I love this quote:

life improvement

“Home improvement becomes life improvement when we offer others the fruits of our labor.  Home improvement becomes life improvement when we see our house become a home through love.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

There’s lots more inside, you can pick it up crazy cheap right here.

  1. I just purchased this book(used for .01 cents:) ). I thought it had cutest illustrations and wasn’t really paying attention to the wording. Then I saw the title of the chapter “Mistakes create Possibilities” and it stopped me. The idea of doing a makeover to start over hit me hard. “Yet we forget the real change requires planning and hard work”. Hard words to swallow…but so true. This really was just what I needed to hear today. Thanks for sharing…can’t wait to get my book!

  2. I loved all four designs but yours was my favorite. If only I was also a single girl with a large bank account…

  3. That must feel great, being mentioned in a magazine! Love the book, I’ll have to get it. I’ve been toting power tools for years — one Christmas, I was so excited when my husband gave me a new tool bag filled with good stuff (I was doing a lot of drapery installations back then) and I was so appreciative. My parents just shook their heads. I can’t stand to wait for a man to do something for me!!

  4. I loved your mood board/design! I could tell when I saw it that it was yours. :) I LOVE those nightstands and chandelier!

  5. Hey Kate

I just wanted to say that your blog rocks!
Any time I am stumped with how to complete a project, I think hmm, I’ll look on centsationalgirl. That’s right, I skip google search completely and go straight for your blog :)
Thanks for sharing all your advice, mistakes, and inspiration!

  6. Congrats! Hopefully we can continue to spread the word about how sensational your blog really is! And I’ll check out the book as well.

    Warmly, Michelle

  7. Congratulations on being featured, Kate! I’ve gone to 3 stores and they don’t have that magazine. I’ll continue my search tomorrow. I love that other little book you got. I may have to pick up that one, too. I’m popping over to Simplified Bee now.

  8. Such truth in such a simple book. I am impeccable in my planning for a client but will impulsively start taking down a wall in my own home. My mistakes have taught me a lot about self control:)

  9. I never would have expected such wisdom from what looks to be a simple little book.
I have to keep my eyes open for one, unless I break down and do some online shopping. (Hard to beat a penny.)

Congratulations on a well deserved mention in a great publication.
