You’re Fabulous, February Edition

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Over that past few weeks and months, some of you have sent me some really incredible makeovers.  I’m way overdue in featuring these, so today I’d like to showcase some of your absolutely fabulous creations and transformations.

Jenny W. writes,

“I discovered your blog after watching a ‘Designed to Sell’ episode where they did a really neat upholstered/framed headboard that I wanted to replicate. Lo and behold, I couldn’t find instructions on the HGTV website, but instead found yours and all of your amazing projects !

I feel like I found buried treasure in all of these wonderful blogs, and now have an amazing tufted headboard hanging above our new king sized bed. I have always loved decorating my house, but in finding inspiring blogs such as yours, it’s being taken to a whole new level.

Did I mention that I painted a side table and a sofa table Heirloom White the same weekend I did the headboard?”

Check out this headboard Jenny made after following this tutorial

Why I Thrift

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Again I found myself stopping by the local St. Vincent de Paul today looking for great pieces of furniture.  This thrift store can be hit and miss, but today, it was a definite hit.  I was just so excited about all of these finds, I had to share.  Call me strange, but scouring a thrift store on a treasure hunt just makes me giddy.

Look at these two beautiful honey tone dressers – they could be stained darker or painted.  Perhaps given some new modern hardware.  I visualize an asymmetrical art gallery or statement mirrors above them !

I fell in love with this chair !  If it’s still there tomorrow, I might go back for it.  All it needs in new modern fabric and it would be fabulous !

Just Doing My Part

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

There comes a day in February that I look forward to with much anticipation.  You’ll often find me breathing on the glass of my front window panes.  I wait.  And I wait.  And then the doorbell rings.

It’s my neighbor Girl Scouts bringing me my cookies !

Kitchen Q & As

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Grazie, merci, mahalo, danke, gracias, thank you thank you thank you for all your kind comments yesterday.  Kitchens are one of those spaces where there is so much you can do with so many different materials !  For us, we wanted something light and bright and inviting with plenty of space for cooking and entertaining.  This guided much of our choices.  Some queries came up via email or in the comments, so here’s a few answers.

What are your countertops made of?  (Charlotte ) What type of marble do you have ?  (Samantha)   Tell me about your countertops  (Sue).

The countertops are a combination of marble and cherry wood.  Yes, it’s true, I chose the two most high maintenance countertops.  Everyone tried to talk me out of it, but I held my ground and I have no regrets.  I ripped this image out of a magazine many years ago and stapled it to my forehead.

I didn’t care if wood countertops were as impractical as high heels in a marathon.  I had to have them.
