Better Not Pout

By Kate Riley December 23, 2009

bhg tiered trayMy plans have been foiled.

My big plans to photograph the winter wonderland tablescape.  My plans to photograph all of those beautifully wrapped gifts and tags.  My plans to publish our delicious Christmas menu.

Foiled.  Humbug.

Why?

I have the nastiest flu bug ever.  Fevers, aches, chills.  Going on Day Three.

But I’m not pouting.  Not one bit.

The presents are done.  The table is set.  There’s a roast in the fridge and good wine on the rack.  The rest of the family is happy and healthy.

We’re enjoying the magic of the season.

bhg wreath on table Nope, I’ve got no reason to pout at all.

Besides, Santa is bringing me the best present of all.

With this nasty flu, I’ll lose like four pounds.

Now that’s a Christmas present I’ll take.

Sending everyone wishes for a

very Merry Christmas holiday !

  1. Oh no! I hope you feel better really really soon. It’s never fun to be sick during Christmastime. Try to rest and enjoy holiday.

  2. Merry Christmas and thank you for all the beauty, ideas, and joy you have brought throughout this past year via your blog. May God bless you and your family…

  3. You are too funny. I’ve to confess that whenever I get sick, I also think about loosing pounds (that is bad :-) However, I am those people that do not loose their appetite when they are sick. When I was a child, I got chicken pox. I lost 1/2 kg – 1 kg, which I recovered soon after. My sister and brother got chicken pox from me: my sister lost 6 kg (more than 12 pounds), and my brother 8 kg (more than 16 pounds). With weight loss or not, I wish you a prompt recover for you, and your family, to enjoy Christmas, and the year to come. Thanks for sharing your story.

  4. that is horrible! i have been down with some sore throat and chills too. it must be going around. hope you have a great christmas!

  5. Sorry to hear you’re sick, but I’m glad you got everything done early and your family is well. Have a very Merry Christmas.

  6. I have to give you kudos for seeing the positive side of things.

What was that line that Emily Blunt said in “The Devil Wears Prada”…
“I’m just one stomach flu away from my goal weight!”

  7. Well, while you’re losing weight the rest of us will be packing it on. I’m actually getting sick of sugar at this point!!!

Here’s hoping you’ll feel much better soon and will be able to fully enjoy your Christmas!

  8. Oh, I hope you feel better soon. I laughed when you said that you would lose weight while sick. We women are all the same:) When you get better you can really eat your delish Christmas meal and not feel guilty. Hope you have a great holiday season.

  9. You poor thing. :( I spent last Christmas sick, and it is noooo fun. I hope you rally long enough to open a really great gift under the tree and enjoy your kiddos. Merry Christmas, friend! :)

  11. Merry Christmas to you as well! I have discovered your blog recently but I love it! Thank you for the information about how you edit your photos with Picasa. Kisses. ;)

  12. Sorry to hear that the flu has landed on your doorstep, but I love your positive attitude. Just don’t forget to drink your water, juice, and tea to stay hydrated. Merry Christmas!

  13. Dear Women along this blog!!! SHAME ON YOU. Illness = weight loss at Christmas?? NEVER! This is tantamount to sacrilege. What about the sugar plums dancing? Who is supposed to eat those?
No…. Christmas is NO time to get the flu…so get over it and that’s an order! You have a responsibility to gain a few by eating the shortbread cookies, and plum pudding, and fruitcake, and turkey and the roast beast and whatever else is eaten by all of us “Whoes” who read this blog.
Buck-up my girl. Times a wasting and you shouldn’t be.

Now Merry Christmas to all….and to ALL…. a Good Night!

  14. I had the flu one year at Christmas – it is so not fun! Feel better soon and enjoy your holidays with your family.

  15. Wow, you are a total rockstar, not even the nastiest of nasty flu bugs can ruin your Christmas, I am so impressed with how organized you are. I wish I could be half so together as you. I’m not scatteredchick for no reason. LOL. I hope you feel better ASAP so you can enjoy the holidays with your family.

  16. I’m so sorry! Stay in bed, rest and let others wait on you. Hope you feel better quickly. Merry Christmas!

  17. Well said!!! (the weight loss is a total bonus, I lost 8 lbs during my recent flu/pneumonia combo) Hoping you feel better in time for that yummy glass of wine. Just in time for New Year’s!!!!!

  18. Ah, poor you! I had this flu in October. Trust me, the best thing you can do is…nothing…at all. Just as you start to feel better and you try to get into your normal routine, you may still be super tired. Just rest and sleep. You’ll be better much fast that way!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  19. Hope you feel better soon, Kate! Sending you some warm wishes from down South and hope Santa makes a stop at your place tonight!

I hope you’re feeling better and able to enjoy the fruits of your work.

Merry Christmas. Hope 2010 brings you all you hope for and more!

  25. I had that nasty flu last week while my company was here. Unfortunately, I only lost two pounds! I have to be comatose to stop eating! I hope you have a Merry Christmas in spite of the flu! Feel better soon!

  26. Hope you are feeling better soon. I always feel that the weight loss is the silver lining in the cloud when I get the flu too. Still, it stinks to be sick. Get lots of rest and feel better.
