Fashion Spotlight: Boden Jackets for Fall

I rarely purchase clothing from a catalog. I refrain because of the likelihood I will inevitably be paying for return shipping when the item doesn’t fit right. But I was delighted to peruse Boden’s Autumn catalog and see that our friends from across the pond are offering 15% off, and also free shipping and free returns, with a “no quibble” return policy. Hello, you’ve got my attention.
I’m a busy mom who doesn’t have much time to plan her daily outfit. I am drawn to tailored looks, especially neutrals paired with pops of color. For fall, I’m always wearing layers, so look for stylish sweaters or jackets that I can grab to go with my boots, basic denim and cotton tops.

These pieces are both stylish and classic, but are they well made? I’m considering the Jazzy Trench Coat in blue/green plaid, the Preppy Knitted Blazer in Ivy, or the Ruffle Cardigan in gold.

Hi, I am usually a lurker but had to come out of hiding today because I LOVE Boden. Very well made clothing and I have always been pleased with the fit and quality. Love to read your blog. It's a daily must-read for me.
Lurker #2 coming out of hiding to say that I have also purchased from Boden and was very pleased with what I got. The fit was just right and the quality was nice. With free shipping AND free returns, why not give it a try?
While I'm here, I'll add that you have inspired me to work on refinishing a small footstool and shelf unit that I've had collecting dust in my basement for several years now. I have refinished furniture before but it's been years and through reading your blog, I am remembering how satisfying it is to do something yourself! With the start of school fast approaching and the crazy schedule that comes with that in my house, I'd better get started!

I really love Boden – I used to buy from them when I lived in the UK and was thrilled when they launched here too… in fact, often things are a little cheaper when purchased in US dollars than in pounds.
I almost always wait until they have a free shipping and returns offer, as that allows me to be a bit more risky in my choices. On the one occasion I had a product problem, their customer service was excellent. Items arrive quickly, especially considering they're crossing the pond. Also, they now have customer reviews on their website which are usually a very accurate guide to the pros and cons of each item. And make sure you do the size translation from UK to US sizes.
Overall, I strongly recommend you give them a try. My catalog offer was only 11% off, so you are 4% in pocket, already!
I love Boden and have bought some clothes for my kids there but never myself….now might be the time to try it out! I know their kids clothes are VERY well made and made to last!

Funny…I was just looking at the catalogue yesterday. Very pretty clothes but the prices are a little high for me. Did you notice the chunky necklace on one of the pages? It reminded me of the necklace my daughters make for me with their Melissa and Doug large wooden bead set. Perhaps I'll order one thing and see if it turns out….at least 15% off and free shipping are good!

I'm not familar w/Boden, but you showed a nice selection. I thought I share about your other question about how to accessorize for fall. I love using scarves, not just the knit ones or the Pashimas, but also colorful and coordinated silky scarves. Mix colors and patterns, like that polka dot scarf w/the stripes. It it gets too hot during the day then you can tie the scarf to your purse.
I also love cardigans and blazers and different camis to go underneath v-necks. There's more options for accessorizing for fall just b/c there are more clothes layers. Oh, and fun shoes!

I was just looking at this catalog at work today. Mine also only has 11% off – not sure what is up with that. I have ordered before and found that I needed to go up a size on most items, so the free returns came in handy for me. Love your blog, by the way. You make me want to complete my entire wishlist of projects NOW!

I have a Boden trench…khaki with red buttons…and it is my fave piece of clothing ever. i wear it to work, i wear it out to the grocery store, i wear it on the rare dates with my hubby. i wear it daily!

I have a Boden sweater that I love. I want that ruffle cardigan too.
One thing: do be careful of the size you choose. Even thought there is no quibbling for returns or exchanges, it's still a pain, and once you get it, you'll just want to keep it, not hassle with it.

Ooh, beautiful picks! I don't like to pay for shipping (or return shipping) either. And I'm BIG on the purchase it all & return whatever you don't like, so that free shipping both ways is always a MUST for me. Good luck narrowing down these gorgeous choices!

My catalog says 15% off – so so sorry some of you are only offered 11% – why the difference, I don't know. Perhaps because I've never shopped there and they are trying to get me to buy! I'd give you the coupon code if it existed, but apparently everyone is given a 'Quick Service Number' and I fear it can only be used once, so I am hoarding my number !! But do you think you might find the 15% off coupon online?

Kate, I think Boden have correctly worked out you are enormously influential in the matter of all things stylish, and they are keen to get you to buy at 15% off. Frankly, I'm surprised they're not sending you free stuff to review :)
But I'm still happy to buy at 11% discount; with the free shipping/returns that's actually a pretty good deal. I did do a quick web search for 15% but it's currently eluding me!
Do the sell model shaped bodies too? Because I would even pay full price shipping for one of those! ;)

I love Boden clothing. I've had good luck ordering so far. Always wait for sales and free shipping like others have said. Just be careful with the sizing…read the charts…and measure. They run a little snug, I think. If you go on their website, you can read reviews of each item that people post. I appreciate that.
I LOVE Boden. Everything I have ordered is top-quality and fits wonderfully (once you figure out their kooky sizing). Agree with others, wait for the better sales, they come in about 6 weeks. Also, I sometimes order two sizes of what I want b/c their sizing is so weird, then just free ship the one that doesn't fit back. That way you don't have to wait for the right size to ship to you.
I've never worn Boden myself, but my son has had many pieces. They wash really well and hold up to crazy three year olds.
I've been lurking on Boden for quite some time (especially their fabulous dresses!) and haven't yet taken the plunge. I will say though I believe that their stateside warehouse is in PA, so they aren't actually being shipped back and forth across the Pond.
If anyone is still following this Boden thread, they just emailed me with an offer of 20% off (and free shipping/returns) on their winter collection.
It looks as if they won't ship until October, and you may also need promotional code PRV1, but it's certainly worth a look if you like their style.
