My Fair Ladies

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Today I searched high and low for a barstool solution for my kitchen peninsula.  Here’s what I found at Pier One:

I found these for $99 each:

And turned them into these fair ladies:

chairs from rear

I wasn’t satisfied with the plain wood top, and I didn’t like any of Pier One’s overpriced cushions, so off to the fabric store I went to make cushions for comfort.

Found Treasures

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Yesterday I promised I’d show you my finds from Sunday’s local Antique Fair.  Okay, here goes.

First, I found these huge genuine crystals at a lamp dealer, and haggled him into selling me six of them for $12.  [Total steal, cause these puppies retail for $7 to $10 a piece.]

I dismantled one of my broken necklaces, and used it to attach the six almond shaped crystals to my dining room chandelier.

Eye Candy… and Some Ideas

Monday, April 27th, 2009

On the morning of the last Sunday in April, you will always catch me singing in the shower and doing a happy dance in my bathrobe. Why? Why it’s the annual Antique Fair, of course! Two blocks of antiques, salvage, and vintage finds on display a mere mile from my house = CG’s drug of choice. One Gal’s Junk is Another Gal’s Tea Party

Friday, April 24th, 2009

My little five year old girl loves to throw tea parties for her friends. Mind you, her friends are furry and have names like “Muffin” and “Candy” but I still let them play together.

Last weekend, I was making the rounds at the local thrift store, and also happened to just pop in to this garage sale in the neighborhood. At each stop, I found a little vanity bench and paid $4 for each of them, with the intention of turning them into tea party perches for those furry friends she likes to party with.

Parisian Powder Room

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

I love all things Paris. Not Hilton. The City.

My downstairs half bath, or powder room, is only 7 feet long by 3 feet wide.  Needless to say, it is a very small space.  When I redid la toilette, I wanted to give it a light, airy feeling, and also a little French flair.

On the wall color choice, I took the easy road, and I painted it about six months ago ‘Silver Sage’ by Restoration Hardware.  I also added a curtain I found on clearance for $49 while picking out the paint.  It is the Etched Filigree drape, done in what Restoration Hardware calls “the French devoré manner—a process that burns out fabric, leaving a lacy design”.  The color of the drape?  You guessed it: Silver Sage.

The filigree drape doesn’t provide much privacy, so we do have a pull down shade any guest can access.  However, there is a very large bouganvilla plant outside that obstructs anyone’s view in, and also provides a garden view from the inside.
